I really like Hodgman‘s humor. Even though he‘s known for fake facts (it is how I originally learned of him all those years ago), his truthy memoir is charming in Hodgman‘s way (and I only say “truthy” because there are a couple of faketoids — that he always immediately points out).
I forgot to post my review! Finished this one a little while ago. I loved it. Renner can tell a story. It wasn‘t even really about the case for me by the time I got to the end because I was so wrapped up in the storytelling surrounding it. Of course there‘s no resolution because it‘s an ongoing case, but it felt final enough. I enjoyed it.
TFW you‘re flirting with your spouse by putting three boxes of Cheerios down the garbage disposal but it creates a sludge and clogs your pipes and you have to call the plumber (a.k.a Pipe Daddy) to come fix them 😂😂
I have less than 100 pages left in this book and I already know I‘m going to be reading more by Renner. His writing style is very Gonzo journalist, very personal, very open. I‘m pretty sure he thinks pretty highly of himself but it‘s in a very self-depreciating way if that makes sense. He‘s humble and he‘s confident. And it makes for a helluva storytelling voice.
I really enjoyed this, as I do all of Klosterman‘s works. I love a good thought experiment, and that‘s all this book is. Each chapter tackles a different facet of our lives (music, movies, the night the color of a dress caused everyone to collectively lose their minds) and makes you think about it in a different way.
I may be the only person to ever rate this book as “meh.” I GOT it. I got the message, what it was about, but I certainly did not enjoy reading it. Not because of the message; that‘s fine. I see that every day. I see it every day and I‘m so tired of it. I didn‘t like the writing or the story. Too much left untold. It was fine. 🤷🏻♀️
Was given this book during a Reddit secret Santa event a few years ago. Finally getting around to it...
“On the evening of February 26, 2015, I (along with millions of other people) experienced a cultural event that—at least for a few hours—seemed authentically unexplainable... But I still think about that night. Not because of what happened, but because of how it felt while it was transpiring.”
OMG HE‘S TALKING ABOUT THE DAMN DRESS. I vividly remember that night, thinking I was going insane. All because of the way people perceive color. Smh. 😂
I don‘t know what to say but the story is still great. The article is beautiful and the characters are really well developed while still maintaining mystery and making you want to know them better. There are genuine laugh-out-loud moments. On to the next!
This series is so good. Gripping, intense, funny. The art is great. Started reading it a few years ago and glad I picked it back up!
Once I finally got into it, I enjoyed the suspense, but there were some passages so vague I had to read them two or three times. I understand it had to be vague to keep the mystery alive (there were some twists I genuinely didn‘t see coming), but occasionally it just made me feel like I was insane.
Was the narrator supposed to be unreliable? Was I just as naive as she (acted)? it was fine, just nothing to rave about. 🤷🏻♀️
