This TL would be a great S to the class. Most of the students know the story or have seen the Disney version of the story. This would help with background knowledge when introducing this version. I would have the students pick a pivotal scene that makes a difference to the story and then draw it out. If they can draw it and perhaps write a couple of sentences to explain it, this would provide comprehension.

This NF short novel explains what it takes to be president. It also shows past presidents with fun cartoons and great explanations. IR would provide great support for projects and presentations. Besides the students creating projects they could also connect it to a history lesson. This topic could be introduced with its Voting season and explaining it to students. #ucflae3414f19

This F picture book is a great book to introduce the spring season, or animals, or friendship. IT is a friendship between a mouse and a rabbit, how far will you go for your friends? This is a great read for young readers trying to make friends. A lesson to follow up with this story could be for the students to come up with their own examples of going above for friendship. #ucflae3414f19

This F picture book is one of my favorites so far doing Litsy posts! This little fish has courage and is a bit mischievous. He takes a big fish's hat and tries to run away or hide in order to keep the hat. I believe a group of students would have fun creating an RT. The ending has me confused, so I will not spoil it! This F novel would be a great PR in class. It is about a mouse who is love with music, stories, and a princess named Pea. If a mouse can love those things then maybe the students will learn to love those things too! The mouse goes on a journey that the students will love to follow along. This F novel is a fun read that the students can then follow up within LC. It is about an unlucky teenage boy who goes to a juvenile corrections facility in the desert after being falsely accused of theft. The story goes into his family history, poisonous lizards, and friendship. Following up with the story I would have the students create a book trailer either digitally or comic book version and present it to the class. #ucflae3414f19

This P book shows an array of poems in alphabetical order fragments of history. The photos bring the words to life and tell their own stories. I would love to bring this book into the classroom during Black History Month, or when you are introducing important figures in history. Due to its length and content, I would probably start the book off with RA and then let the students PR to have great conversations in between. #ucflae3414f19

This TL picture book is a great storytelling strategy. Most students may already know the story so they will follow along easily. For those who may not have heard of the folktale, it will be captivating. After the storytelling, you can have copies of the book available for students to IR later on in the day/week. This HF short novel is a great IR for young students. The novel is from a young girl's perspective during a time were white Americans and black Americans were at a divide. She had an activist father and a community of leaders all around her, including Uncle Martin (MLK). This B short novel is a great way to introduce students to famous figures. This is just one of a series of books you can have in your classroom library. It is a simplified version of traditional Biography information for young students. This could be used as an AS choice or IR for a project. This NF this a fun picture book to share with the class in a RA. The fun facts about animals and how big or small they are will build the interest of young readers. This would be great following up learning about animals after a science lesson on animals. For an ESOL strategy, I would sit in a small group with the students and go over the facts again for comprehension, not memorization. #ucflae3414

This F book would be the best DR for young readers. The story is about a giant mooncake that Little Star's mom made for her. She asks her, daughter, not to eat it all too fast. By night after night, Little Star eats the moon cake until it is all gone! The students would have a blast reenacting this story. #ucflae3414f19

This RF book opens the hearts of many! What a great gift, giving can be. This would be a great RA during the holiday season (Thanksgiving). It is a great story about a sweet woman who cooks a stew that has a delicious smell that travels. One by one people knocks on her door to have some! Read the story to see what happens next. This F book is a super sweet PR for young readers. It is about a mouse who has a favorite blanket that he takes EVERYWHERE and to do EVERYTHING. His mom and dad can't seem to get Owen to let it go, so mom comes up with the best solution for when it is time to start school. I believe having the students read this story in pairs will better give them a chance for discussion.

This RF picture book is about the adventures of Peter on a snow day. He learns what snow has to offer when you walk in, how it disappears, and all that it offers. It is a great book to choose when talking about the elements in a classroom. I would also read this as CR. UDL principle: Activate or supply background knowledge (3.1). The books are part of a 4 book series that leaves you hanging on the tips of your toes wanting to read the next one! This F Picture book themed in the season of Halloween is a great read for fall. The students are involved and they are familiar with the season. I would love to have a “bucket“ or display of books for each season and add this to the collection. The students may choose this as an IR. This F picture book is a great way to bring fun into the classroom. Perhaps it is testing a week or in between lessons this RA would be great to share with students. Teachers could even bring brownies and icecream to class to enjoy after reading the book. This RF novel, Merci Suarez Changes Gears by Meg Medina is a great being of age story. I recommend RA to a class at the beginning of the school year so children can make self to text connections right off the batt. This story is about a young girl Hispanic girl on a scholarship in a private school starting in 6th grade. She faces challenges in making friends, figuring out how to fit in, and faces family struggles. #ucflae3414f19

This RF novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio is perfect for students reading at a 5th-6th reading level. A great teaching strategy would be PR, being able to discuss what happened in the book with a peer will help students digest the information. This book gives an insight into how students who feel or look different enter the school year and all the struggles they face.
