Playing caught up. This is Day 24's Prompt.
#Lies
This was pretty good. I liked the friendships between the four MCs though it did seem strange that such close friends- guilty feelings or not- hadn't seen each other for so long. I enjoyed going along for the ride as events unfolded... right up until the end. Everything was resolved and tied up neatly but not in the ways I would have preferred so I felt let down. 🤷♀️
I like Ruth Ware‘s work but this one was a slog. A fine enough premise, but the author kept the audience distant from the truth for too long, which made the pace wrong. A healthy edit was really needed here.
Isn‘t it just the way that all your library holds come in at once 😅
This is the first of five, always liked Ware‘s books so I‘m hoping for good things
Definitely a flawed murder mystery- and not much of a mystery at all to be honest- but I still enjoyed this book. I loved the setting, the relationship between the girls, and the Dickensian falling- down house.
I am a fan of Reese Witherspoon, and I love how she chooses books to create films and TV series. So, my expectations were high for this #murdermystery involving four friends who attended the same boarding school until, they were asked to leave. The girls have grown up, have careers, but still carry a secret.Cinematic feel. I definitely can see it on the big screen. It was just too long, and I was not fond of the characters.#booked2022 #192025 #2017
Just picked up this after reading Ware's newest release. The It Girl. This is a Reese's bookclub pick so I'm intrigued also, there are mixed reviews so I'm curious. Well see! Happy Saturday
Let the weekend reading begin!
I‘m not typically one for mystery novels. I usually have them figured out 1/3 of the way through. However, Ware kept me on my toes with this one. Just when I thought I had the mystery solved, another element was added into this game of lies and secrets spanning over 20 years. #reesewitherspoonbookclub
Ruth Ware writes good stories and comes up with pretty engaging plots. But I dno, this was a bit long, and I was so sick of the main character towards the end. Ugh she was the worst, so whiny. The very end got me interested, but that feeling just didn‘t start early enough (and it didn‘t rly last either)
“On a cool June morning, a woman is walking her dog in the idyllic coastal village of Salten, along a tidal estuary known as the Reach. Before she can stop him, the dog charges into the water to retrieve what first appears to be a wayward stick, but to her horror, turns out to be something much more sinister… “
Great thriller! Twisty and dark and kept me guessing-all the best things in a mystery! Thanks to @TheBookKeepers for this book as part of my #wintersolstice gift.
Second reading of this one. Liked it better on audio. This narrator reads all of Ware‘s books, I think. She‘s wonderful. 🥰
@TheBookKeepers Thank you so much for all the thoughtful and fun gifts for the #wintersolsticeswap ! The candle and the incense smell amazing, the hat and socks are so soft and comfy, I‘ve been wanting to read the tagged book forever, the Girls book sounds 🔥and I can‘t wait to try the cards, smudge kit and make some witchy crafts. And the wrapping was lovely too! Thank you so much! Thanks for organizing the swap @sprainedbrain and @Chrissyreadit
Really enjoyed this one, although parts of it just broke my heart! And others had me scratching my head. 🌊

Ever since I got diagnosed with my auto-immune stuff and had to drastically change my diet, it's been hard to find treats for me to look forward to, but my husband is always on the lookout. Such a happy reading snack! #outstandingoctober #readwithme #scarathlon2021 #teamslaughter
Once I realized the mystery/thriller aspect in this slow burn of a book was secondary to the character relationships, I enjoyed it. It could be an interesting a parent/teenager buddy read. Sometimes people lie because they are good at it. That same person might grow into a very responsible adult and things erroneously kept secret then could have an even greater impact later. The discussions ensuing by a buddy read could be beneficial.
#LittensDressedInBlood – He Did It – Did he do it? Didn‘t he? Somebody did. Honestly I‘m not sure why I had this book on my list for this prompt but here you go 😂
This book does a very good job going into detail about 4 women all connected through a harsh memory they all share back in boarding school. This book has many ups and down and keeps you on your toes the entire time. Personally I'm not a big reader, but the flashbacks and twisted turns this book takes while adding drama to every page definitely kept me reading .
I like a good Ruth Ware book, and this one didn't disappoint: 4 friends, and the lying game they started in their teen years that continues to affect them as adults.
Ruth ware is officially added to the list of “must read as soon as they release any new material” she‘s the best

What are you reading? 😊
This was another audiobook and, honestly my favorite part about it was Imogen Church‘s voice and accent. I was a bit disappointed with this one. The story was suspenseful enough and I liked most of the characters. The less likable characters were intriguing. Overall, I didn‘t feel as though the story delivered or met my expectations.
This was probably my “favorite” Ware I‘ve read so far though it was still just so-so. My problem is that due to similar inner voices her lead female characters feel interchangeable. This one also had strange pacing, where the majority of the action was squished towards the end and the rest of the book was a meandering narrative where not much happened except for a lot of breastfeeding. 😂 But Imogene Church‘s reading was, once again, outstanding.
I'm learning that Ruth Ware is hit or miss for me. Or maybe she had simply gotten that much better over time.
I actually got 2/3 through this book before I finally asked myself why I was still reading. The answer: because it's a mystery & I wanted to know how it ended, but it was quickly going off the rails for me. I did something I rarely do: Googled the ending. I am SO glad I didn't spend time finishing. I would have been so angry.
The spring semester began on Monday, & this is pretty much what I've looked like since then. 🤯 Finally got to read this evening for the first time since the weekend, & I sure have missed hanging out here! How are all of my professor/teacher friends doing?
I love a book that keeps pulling you in with tidbits of information given as the story unfolds. I was guessing until the end.
Now that it‘s finished, I would rate this a “pick.” Until halfway through, I was ready to ditch it. This book had a very slow start and is primarily character-driven rather than event-driven. It finally picked up speed and was difficult to put down at that point. I‘m glad I finished it. If you‘re new to Ruth Ware, don‘t start with this one. Start with The Woman in Cabin 10 or The Turn of the Key first.
My Goodwill find today. I‘ve seen mixed reviews. I hope it‘s good! 😭
The Lying Game ~ Ruth Ware This was a slow burn for me and at times felt like it dragged, but the story was worth it. It is a story of the bonds of friendship and the lies we tell. But what I really loved was the setting, in a small English seaside town where the marshes are a character in themselves.
I read this as part of #reesewitherspoonbookclub and for #scarathlon2020. A good mystery with a bit of suspense and gore thrown in. Lots (too many and unnecessary, in my opinion) of breastfeeding references. Ending was so-so. What I did like was where it takes place and the gorgeous descriptions. @StayCurious
Kate, Thea, Fatima and Isa (our narrator) have been playing the lying game at Salten School as a lark. Kate‘s father, Ambrose is the art teacher who lives at the Old Mill with her half-brother, Luc.
One night, after a tragedy at the Mill, Kate turns to her closest friends for help, and the lying game takes a life-shattering turn. What the young girls do has repercussions that hide the truth for years to come.
Can‘t wait for her new book.
