Not the best start to a new reading year, but I am 38% done with my second book AND I have been knitting like mad. I started and finished a beanie in January, and I started three other projects in January that I‘m currently working on. So, I‘m not too upset by this number.

I haven‘t been doing a lot of reading lately; I just haven‘t been in the mood. What I have been doing is knitting. It finally dawned on me today to finish listening to the Harry Potter series on audiobook. 🤪

Kaye So you ARE reading. With your ears. 6y
jenni_elyse @kaye Well, now I am. But, just barely. I‘m only on Chapter 1, lol. 6y
Kaye Whatcha making, a sweater ? It‘s very pretty yarn. 6y

jenni_elyse @kaye Socks. My first time. I‘m excited. I‘ve made an afghan, scarf, and beanie before so I decided to try my hand at socks. 6y
Kaye I can crochet well, but knitting is more challenging to me. I can make a dishcloth. That‘s about as much knitting ability as I have. I don‘t know how to do increases and decreases, and knitting in the round would really confuse me. I‘d like to be able to do it better. 6y
jenni_elyse @kaye I can crochet too. I‘m just picking up knitting. I‘m much better at crocheting but I figure I need to practice. Also, crocheting hurts my hands now while knitting doesn‘t. 6y

I liked the LOST-esque feel of the book (e.g. more questions than answers, supernatural elements, mysterious island), but I didn't like the characters as much as I liked the LOST characters so I couldn't get fully onboard with the story.

Sadly, my most recent 5-star read was last May. It was By Your Side by Kasie West. I was in an epic reading slump for the last half of 2018, though. I only read 4 books in 6 months. 😳😢😭 #boutofbooks #bob24igphoto

Moony Oh I know how you're feeling. I read 17 books and only four where really good and I couldn't put them down. 6y

I‘m participating in #boutofbooks 24. A week-long readathon that started yesterday (January 7) and goes until Sunday (January 13).

I‘m currently reading my book club book, Orphan Island by Laurel Snyder. What are you reading? Any #boutofbooks participants on Litsy? #bob24igphoto

thebluestocking Ooh. I need to get started on that too. 6y

Here are my favorite reads of the year. I only read 23 books this time around. Hopefully, next year will be a better reading year.

thebluestocking It‘s fun to see your list! I read and liked several of these. I still need to read On the Fence. 6y

As an “Aspergirl” myself, I wanted this book to be an eye-opening, life-changing experience so many others seem to have had while reading it. Unfortunately, I had a very hard time with it. I related to some of what Ms. Simone wrote about. However, I mainly felt like I couldn‘t relate to the stories/experiences because I don‘t experience life exactly the way they do.

thebluestocking That‘s too bad this didn‘t speak to you. 6y

1. Great ending to one of my favorite series.
2. Sadly, only 18.5. I haven‘t felt much like reading since June.
3. I quit my job and went back to school.
4. Buying new shelves for my library.
5. Hi @JayneG

Burning Glass | Kathryn Purdie

Pickpick

I really enjoyed Burning Glass. I thought the characters were rich and complex. The fictional world is based on imperialistic Russia, which drew me into the story. And, it reminds me of Throne of Glass a little bit, just not quite as good. I look forward to reading the sequel when it's released.

I enjoyed How to be Pirate more than I did How to Train Your Dragon because I knew what to expect this time around. I really liked Hiccup's adventures in this one. They were fun to read about. And, book Toothless is starting to grow on me, though I still like movie Toothless better.

AvidReader25 I loved movie Toothless better too. 9y
melrailey Ok David Tennant narrates these audios and they are so very very good! 7y

I'm surprised how quickly the group found the prison. Didn't happen until S3 of TV show. They didn't stay at Hershel's farm long; it felt interminable on the show. I'm curious how things will happen since the show's different. I like that I'm still being kept on my toes even though I know the story.

I read this because I adore the movie. I knew the book was different, but it still had a lot to live up to. It was fun and entertaining and I look forward to reading more in the series. I really liked the characters with one exception--I like movie Toothless much better than book Toothless.

Libby1 I LOVE TOOTHLESS!!! 🖤 6y

Emmy & Oliver was not only a fun YA romance, but it also tackled some pretty heavy topics. I found myself crying a few times during my read because the emotions were so well done. It definitely added to the overall depth of the story and my enjoyment. I had a hard time putting it down.

As I read Charlotte's Web, I had to cover the pictures of Charlotte with my hand and imagining 500+ baby spiders floating along in the wind is enough to give me nightmares. Surprisingly, however, I did end up enjoying the story. I'm glad I gave Charlotte's Web a chance.

flowersquiet So WHY did you have to post that particular picture?! *shudders* I have to scroll past really fast. Thanks Jenni. Thanks a lot. 😉 9y
jenni_elyse @flowersquiet Lol! Yeah, I have to too. 9y
tkingsanchez I, too, am terrified of spiders, but I will forever love Charlotte. 9y

Since I love TV show so much, I decided to give the graphic novel a try. It was fun. I actually liked it because it's just like watching the show, but with a few differences. I think I can get down with this type of graphic novel.

Pickpick

I adored Northanger Abbey from start to finish. I fell in love with Mr. Tilney from the very first time Catherine met him. At times, I thought Catherine was a little too naïve, but it wasn‘t enough to influence my opinion of the story. It has become my favorite Austen novel.

eclecticreading Happy to hear you enjoyed it! 😄 9y
