I‘m always up for a Brene Brown audio! This one is from a few years ago, but nonetheless filled with great lessons born from her research on shame and vulnerability. She just makes so much sense. But I also feel like I‘ll need to revisit this and her other books to help them really sink in. #scarathlon #spookyghostclub #hardlyanywordsearchpoints

A reread/relisten of this one & I finished it last night for my Leadership Foundation 101 cohort discussion at work tomorrow. I love Brene‘ Brown—she makes me think & laugh even when she is making me uncomfortable when the truth hits a little too close to home. Not everyone in my class likes this one, but we are all at various stages in our journey & sometimes it‘s not the right book at the right time for us & that‘s okay.👌ðŸ¼

Another audio & #bookspin book (June). I‘m late to the Brene Brown craze. I‘ve never listened to her TED talk. I enjoyed this one & I enjoyed listening to her discuss her work & research. Shame & resiliency, like most social science research topics, are hard to quantify but so important to understand. It definitely gave me some things to think about & some different perspectives to view/understand others.

Great ideas in this book, and I liked that Brown showcased where she herself finds it difficult to practise the ideas. The appendix on the grounded theory that supported her research was interesting as well. It‘s the sort of book that would do well to have on hand and flip through when you need a boost.

This is 1 of those books I want to get a copy for everyone I know. Just finished the audio this morning & now want a hard copy for myself, my sister, mom, aunts, friends & coworkers. This book impacted me-crying on my audiodrive home from work. Now to check out her website for the downloads & maybe ordering 10 copies for Xmas gifts. Working on my courage, vulnerability & overcoming anxiety. It‘s been a hard year for me & this was a necessary read.

I think my impression of this suffered from reading it right after The Gifts of Imperfection. There‘s a fair amount of overlap. I‘m on board with premise about the value of vulnerability, but GoI just resonated with me more.

I often forget how poignant and applicable Brene Brown's books are until I actually sit down and finish one. I love her work and how she makes it relatable but I definitely need a reminder to read her on a regular basis. #45-2022

Well, it could be the tagged had an unfair advantage toward a 5* rating since it‘s a reread. On the hand, it was fascinating to read while at a completely different stage in my life - her lessons have a new application for me!

The Last time I read this I was a brand new empty nester and giving my all to the workforce. I was inspired by Brene‘s lessons on shame, guilt, and vulnerability. Now that I‘m retired and a grandmother, I wanted to revisit this so that I can best apply those great lessons in my current world. I‘m so glad I returned to this book!

Cosmos_Moon I had to look it up, but it was Dare to Lead that I read as part of an industry women‘s book club. Good, too, from what I remember. (edited) 2y

I‘ve been waiting for the right moment to read this. What a gem! Not only does it give me courage to be vulnerable but also how I can take back my life from the feelings of shame. I highly recommend for anyone that needs a reset, do-over, or those just needing encouragement.

After ch 2, I skimmed the rest. It felt like a TedTalk expanded into a book but without enough. Too many anecdotes & personal stories, too many generalities, too little science or actual tools. I‘m not even clear on her definition of shame as she seems to lump a lot of things into shame. And I will honestly forget most of what I did read. Sadly, this is a pan & an #unpopularopinion

wanderinglynn @Chrissyreadit I can send this to you if you want to check it out. Honestly, I think The Artist Way, which I just started, is much more helpful & provides actual tools to “dare greatlyâ€, be vulnerable, & combat shame—Julia Cameron just doesn‘t use those terms. 2y
Chrissyreadit @wanderinglynn I have it on kindle- for years- I also have The Artists Way- I thought I‘d read it with my teens in their High School years, but we never got to it. I‘m much more likely to pick The Artists Way up. But thanks for offering 😘 2y

OMG --- I don't know why I waited so much on this one. It was on my TBR forever! Also its a big “must read“ in the #murderino groups! I can definitely see why.

I think I need to purchase a hard copy of this one so I can continue to enjoy it by going back and referencing it!

What a heart warming read. â™¥ï¸ I am still not an expert in distinguishing shame from guilt but reading this book makes me think it's possible to be a better human and that the best life is an authentic life.

Many interesting and helpful nuggets to take away from this book— it‘s not the cure-all, I don‘t think, but definitely a useful tool. I particularly liked the section about combating perfectionism as a defense mechanism through 1. self kindness 2. common humanity and 3. mindfulness.

The parts on parenting didn‘t apply so much to my life, but were still kind of fun to read about. Probably a good read for many parents out there!!

I'm a big fan of Brené Brown and have enjoyed her Ted Talk and various lectures. This book on shame and vulnerability just spoke to me with her voice, which is so passionate and entrataining. As a daughter, friend, parent and educator I just lapped up all her research and ideas and I cant wait to read the rest of her writings.

We are inclined to feel that we need to keep everyone at a safe distance and always have an exit strategy, but vulnerability is not weakness. This book made me ask myself, how is my fear of vulnerability holding me back? The answers are not easy.

I'm not a huge fan of self-help type books, they often feel preachy, but this was a really good break from reading fiction. It just felt authentic.

Emma_PK I've just finished this, I wouldn't even call it a self help book, to me its more like research outcomes and commentary on society and relationships. Its fab, isnt it? Have you seen her Ted Talks? 3y
bourne.shell @Emma_PK I totally agree with you. I haven't seen the Ted Talk, I know she referenced it several times in the book. What am I waiting for?

Have you read anything else by her. Curious if her new stuff is just as good or just didn't packaging on the same message.

Emma_PK I am due to read a few more of hers, I think she circles around similar concepts that understandably overlap due to the focus of her work, but I just love her whole approach and communication style and have been listening to her podcast too. Definitely take a look at her Ted Talk, there is another one of hers on Netflix also. When I read the next book I will let you know what I think. 🙂 3y

This book! Was so great! From everything from education, marriage, family, work, and our personal relationships with ourselves, this book teaches about blame, shame, vulnerability, wholeheartedness, and what exactly it means to dare greatly.
Not a self help book and not a how-to guide , Brown writes so honestly about her life and emotions and experiences that are so relateable it made me cry multiple times.

This is one of those books where I ended up highlighting roughly half of the book. I think I need a physical copy of this one to put on my shelf of spiritual/philosophical reads. So, so good and important.

I didn't read anything categorized as "self help" before Brene! I have read all of her books except 2, and she has changed me. Brene writes about her research on shame and vulnerability. Sounds depressing, but it is incredibly inspiring and uplifting! I re-listen to this one on audio whenever I am feeling really down on myself. A great, well-researched exploration of our view of self, and how it can make or break you
