I seem to have developed a taste for this author. This was silly, light hearted and fun. For something 90 years old it's not as problematic as you might expect though it has a couple of well worn tropes, they're not ones that are exclusive to old books.

The story concerns a man who starts to randomly turn into different animals. So that probably tells you what you need to know about how serious it is.

If you can cope with some of the dated views this is a fun romp

Enjoyed this book. The exploration of the life of a marriage was well done. Also some of the passages relating to the parent-child relationship were quite insightful and moving.

Are you a bitter ender?

In theory I'm not but having reached > 50% in my current read I feel I want to finish despite not loving it.

I enjoyed this. A well drawn portrait of a relationship between two people figuring out who they are.

I read the short story growing up and it had a big impact. Powerful, emotional.

This is the novel which has expanded the back story. It's a bit dated and loses some of the punch of the story.

Mr. Mercedes: A Novel | Stephen King

I enjoyed this in the end but early in I wasn't so sure.

The 'voice' of the characters felt a bit off to me. But as the book his on the tension builds and it becomes very page turning by the end.

Mr. Mercedes | Stephen King

Picked this up again after a break of a few days. Had to spend a good forty minutes reminding myself of what has happened so far.

*sigh*

But let's not make this about my rubbish memory.

I'm enjoying this book. But different to other Stephen King books I've read. Which is only a few really. Quite like that so far it's a mystery.

Not bad. The radio adaptations with Bill Nighy are better.

BethM Welcome! What is this? I love Bill Nye 💕 6y
latepaul @BethM it's Bill Nighy the actor, not Bill Nye. I think I initially put “Nye“ by mistake but corrected it.

There are several BBC Radio adaptations of this series of books. I came to the books having heard and enjoyed the radio shows. The books so far - only read the first three - are so-so mysteries. Maybe just not my thing.
