Finally starting this book from my bishop's library. It is a little hard to follow and pretty gross, but it is teaching me about a place and time and culture that I did not know.

I'm not liking this Oprah pick, but I've got my pick ready to read next. I just don't like some of the decisions the author made with the storyline. Reminds me of Sula which I also didn't like.

And even in our sleep pain, which cannot forget, falls drop by drop upon the heart, until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God." - this is from the prologue. I believe it is a reference to Romans 5:3-5 that I have sitting on my desk. I think I'm going to like this book.
