Just finished my Atwood double feature of “Alias Grace” and “The Blind Assassin” and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them! The more I read of Atwood the more I appreciate what a great storyteller she is, really one of the greats. Out of the two I think I enjoyed “Alias Grace” more, it kept me hooked from beginning to end, while “The Blind Assassin” was more of a slow burn, but by the end I was all in!

For my thesis project I took the memoirs of Laetitia Pilkington, an Irish writer and poet from the 1700s, and made them available for the first time as an interactive ebook! Chicago, 1893. If there‘s one thing I love most about this book it‘s the setting. This true story follows the paths of two men; Daniel Burnham, the architect in charge of organizing the Chicago World‘s Fair, and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer operating in Chicago at the same time. Though the two tales don‘t interweave in any significant way, they‘re fascinating stories in their own right.

Ever since coming across ‘The Sandman‘ a few years back (a decade, realistically) I‘ve been slowly but surely going through Neil Gaiman‘s bibliography. He‘s one of my favorites, nobody can blend the mundane and the fantastical quite like my man Neil! Also thank you to everyone who has welcomed me to Litsy, there‘s too many to mention but I appreciate it immensely!

The first post is always an exciting and nerve-inducing time, but I couldn‘t be happier to kick off my Litsy career with ‘The Golden Notebook‘ by Doris Lessing. What at first seemed to me like a convoluted and entangled narrative became utterly engrossing and ultimately a rewarding read that will stay with me for a long time. A book about writing itself, and the pain and struggles that come with it.
