the fact that everyone has one or two ridiculous nicknames in this book is my current favorite thing

meh. I really wanted to like this, but didn't so much. the main character, Frances, was so ridiculously martyred by her life of scrubbing the floors and cleaning the outhouses, that it became ridiculous. and boring, at least to me. I just couldn't stick with it.

absolutely loved this book. I was hesitant to read a traditional "murder mystery" but SO GLAD I did. The characters were amazing and complex and compelling.

a little over halfway through, just starting to really like it. It's incredibly heavy on arcane Catholic religious stuff, which has kept me from completely enjoying and understanding the first half of the book.

I loved this book. it was just flawlessly written, for one thing. Russo has an amazing way of making us care for the characters while never being sentimental or weepy. The humor is just wonderful. I found myself laughing out loud several times, which I never do. Please read this!
