Tremblay does it again I have a new go to author I know what to expect a supernatural story using a fine balance or natural and supernatural for the reader to make up their own minds about what really happened.
Can totally see this as a movie

Tremblay is an expert at crafting unsettling atmosphere (there were a few chapters that were stellar) but I ultimately had trouble finishing this novel. A solid start but didn‘t quite keep me engaged throughout.
I‘m catching up on my reviews for last year- I really liked the way this started, it was creepy and intriguing but for me it was let down towards the end. One of those books that seemed like the author didn‘t really know how to finish things up. It left me frustrated. ⭐️⭐️
🎧 Less horror, more supernatural, fiction, psychological suspense. Slow in comparison to the author‘s current work. It‘s character driven. The story begins with a missing 13yo boy (Tommy). Elizabeth & her daughter Kate repeatedly stumble (magically?) across pages of Tommy‘s journal that tell the story of what happened in flashback involving Tommy, his 2 friends, an older boy. I‘d say, slice of life but it keeps you guessing. I liked it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️5/6
It‘s ok, I really didn‘t need to sleep tonight. 😱
This book is the perfect blend of psychological thriller, horror, and creepy is it or isn‘t it paranormal. As a mom, this is a worst-fears kinda book. It‘s also well-written and engaging. I couldn‘t stop listening, despite the mounting dread. And that ending. Ugh.

Alright.
That‘s the word I‘ll use to describe this book. I moved real quick into this one because I was so excited about the last Paul Tremblay book that I read. But I feel I was kind of disappointed. In my opinion, there was too much unnecessary text in some of the chapters and I found myself rushing to get through them. Although I was intrigued to find out what happened at the end. Between head full of ghosts and cabin, this comes in 3rd for me
This went in a direction I wasn't expecting. The first few chapters were the strongest for me but it was a compelling story. Middle schooler Tommy disappears one night while hanging out in a state park with two friends; their straight forward account soon becomes more complicated. Tremblay jumps between characters to tell this story and I'm not sure I really felt like I had a handle on any of them by the end.
A little bit of this. A little bit of that. More CT finds.
Book 43: I don‘t know how I exactly feel about this book. The good parts were WOW and the slow parts made it feel like a 600 page book (in a bad way). I enjoyed the realistic horror mixed in with the supernatural horror.
I loathe stories with ambiguous resolutions, yet somehow, Paul Tremblay makes it work. This folk-tale/mystery about a missing teen, a mysterious 20-something he befriends and the mother and sister who try to solve the mystery along with a sympathetic female police officer made for a fun and interesting read. This is my least favorite of Tremblay's novels, yet it's worth reading.
Another great story from this author. Bit more of a slow-burn creepy one in comparison to Head Full of Ghosts and Cabin in the Woods. But equally chilling. 5 stars
Well, I had a good streak of reading books I enjoyed and then I ran into this. Too long, too unbelievable, and a big disappointment after reading A Head Full of Ghosts, which was incredible.
📚 Disappearance at Devil‘s Rock by Paul Tremblay
🎥 Not a movie, but a series - Supernatural
🎶 Two songs come to mind. Hells Bells by AC/DC and Oh Devil by Electric Guest

Chores are finished, everyone's in bed, and now I'm going to take some time to myself and start this one. This is my pick for Massachusetts for #ReadingUSA2019; both the author and setting are the same. I've tried to do that with as many books as possible for this challenge.
@Librarybelle
I jumped right into this one after finishing Head Full of Ghosts. I don‘t even know what to say about really. There was the line Tremblay is great at walking the reader down-is it supernatural or human behavior-but it just fell short for me. I felt like it was longer than necessary and oh so so much dialogue. Maybe I would have felt differently if I had read this one before HFOG but I went in with high expectations and felt let down in the end.
1) 8-10 books
2) Nope — I‘m not a writer. Tried blogging but it‘s just not for me
3) Fall, my birthday, and Thanksgiving
4) Happy November to all my Litsy friends ☺️☺️

2. Daphne du Maurier
3. Drop Dead Gorgeous (the one with Kirstie Alley and Kirsten Dunst)
4. Deviled eggs!

As if I don't have enough to read...I couldn't pass these up at the library! 😀📚
To say i am disappointed is an understatement.I feel cheated.I was expecting a thrilling, spooky, compelling tale but what i got was very stale. Not recommending this one.
Really loved A Head Full of Ghosts, so I had high hopes for this. It took a long time to get going (about halfway before anything happened), and the reasons for the disappearance were so ambiguous as to be unsatisfying. Not sure what really happened at Devil‘s Rock, and sounds like Tremblay isn‘t sure either.
Storming outside, kitty on my belly, scary book, coffee. Perfect Saturday morning. (Except husband is stuck in Washington DC with cancelled flights ☹️)
I feel like I should have devoured this book. Instead, I kept putting it down. I have to give Tremblay props - he succeeded in making me question every single character!
Sweatpants, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and a book. It must be the weekend!
I can‘t believe I finallly won a Goodreads giveaway. I feel like Leonardo Dicaprio.
I liked but didn‘t love this book. The creepy ambiguity that worked so well in Tremblay‘s A Head Full of Ghosts fell a little flat here for me.
I read this author‘s book Head Full of Ghosts earlier this year I really liked it. His ability to keep you guessing about whether there is something supernatural happening or whether it‘s psychological is compelling. However I just couldn‘t get into this one.
My pre-Thanksgiving package from my wonderful pen pal and fellow educator, @Emilyrjones22 ! Is there any better way to kick off a week off from work than by getting a box of books? Not only that, but she included Walking Dead swag! Thanks, Emily—you‘re the best!!

Pretty disappointed in this book. After reading Tremblay's A Head Full of Ghosts, I quickly grabbed this book up. About 70 pages in and, while the writing is easy to read, the story didn't grab my attention as strongly as I hoped. Finished this book in about four days because I just wasn't that into it.
I enjoyed this one. I liked A Head Full of Ghosts better but this was suspenseful. There were a couple of times where I was like dude I cannot put this book down.
Almost finished with this one. Man I am a slow reader compared to most people doing this readathon. I made 10ish hours...my stop watch reset itself over night. I got a nap in and had a nice time cuddling with my fuzzy girls. #readathon
😱😱😱I fell asleep....but good news I woke up to these cuties! #readathon @DeweysReadathon @Liberty
Pretty great, unsettling book. The story is nothing like A Head Full of Ghosts but I like how in both stories the author plays around with horror conventions and cliches to keep the reader guessing about what is really happening. #Hallowreads
This was a solid five star read! 🤘
My (ambitious) October TBR! Part of which I'm sure will end up getting carried over into next month because slow reader. *sigh*
My first Tremblay book and after hearing so much about Head Full of Ghosts, I guess I was expecting to be terrified. While there are creepy/unexplained events, it was mostly about how the disappearance of a boy turns sinister as we gradually learn more from the friends who last saw him. Rather than a supernatural event hinted at by the boys and even the media (locals report of a shadow man), it shows the downward spiral of mental illness.
This #Listen has a great slow build of spooky atmosphere to kick off my Halloween #AudioColoring. While this isn‘t my favorite of the author‘s, it‘s still fast-paced and engaging! #30DaysOfReadathon
Kicking off October creepy reads with this e-book deal I picked up a few months ago thanks to some glowing Litsy reviews/comments.
Kitties to the left of me. Puppies to the right. Here I am trying to read my book! #puppiesandkitties #olive #bentleyboo #muchlove #weekendplans #9daysleft
Another Tremblay read that I pretty much did in 1 day. This one left me thinking just like A Head Full of Ghosts but disturbed me more. At the cottagw here I had to leave a low light on all night -a little worried about what I might see in the darker dark.
Paul Tremblay comes through again. He's obviously goimg to be one of my favorites as he has got a great creepy vibe going. I'm hoping this got me out of the reading slump I've been in.
