"Across the state, bumper stickers started to crop up: Vote for the Crook. It's Important. Many people in Louisiana who could never imagine for Edwards, including Republicans, realized the disaster Louisiana faced should Duke win [the race for governor].

"Make America Great Again" carries a coded mantra: make America white again. David Duke crowed to that fiddle more than any politician I ever encountered until I watched the rise of Trump. He plays on fear of the other, on is versus them, which frankly I thought was done after we sent David Duke packing.

If you can get past the angsty teen romance in the first part of the book, the second half is good.

As with all of Shelly Laurenston's books, I laughed so hard my sides hurt. The honey badgers are amazing.

Fast paced, entertaining read. Solid debut novel. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one since it ends on a cliffhanger!

This was an fantastic end to the trilogy. The first half was a bit slow but the end is gripping. Overall the series is one of the most unique I've read in a long time.

Obelisk Gate is a amazing book with rich world building and characters, however it did drag at times in the beginning. Jemisin's use of second person point of view is still jarring, but it is finally explained. 4 stars

In the end I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one; however, the nonlinear narration kept dumping me out of the story just as I was getting hooked. It was an effort to stay in the world to finish the book, but worth it!

This amazing book is both important and a hard to put down fantastic read. It's alternatively heartbreaking and humorous. #readingblackout

This comic is visually gorgeous and definitely worth the read, but while it's book 1 in a new arc it drops you into the middle of a revolution with very little backstory. It has a lot of potential but definitely not a good starting point for those unfamiliar with the character. #readharder2018 #readingblackout

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but it was still an excellent book. Well researched and a strong heroine, just not as action packed as the first book. #readharder2018 #readingblackout

Finally picked this one up for Read Harder after seeing so many good reviews. Great mixture of historical adventure and romance, and the fact the characters are inspired by real life people makes it even better! #readharder2018 #readingblackout

Remember this as long as you live: Whenever you meet up with anyone who is trying to cause trouble between people--anyone who tries to tell you that a man can't be a good citizen because of his religious beliefs--you can be sure that the troublemaker is a rotten citizen himself and a rotten human being. Don't ever forget that!

Ash and Quill | Rachel Caine

It is a terrible arrogance to think that there are any kind of humankind who are better or worse, or worthy or not. It comes of a pitiful need to believe in one's own worth when one is hollow within. We are all worthy. And none of us are, all at once. Once that is acknowledged, that hollow, howling space may be filled with understanding. But so many cling to their emptiness, and I fear that they may yet prevail.

"Who said anything about easy? But it's all you can do, isn't it? Live today. Then the next day. And the one after that. Unless you're inclined to jump off the nearest cliff, of course, but surviving is fairly addictive. Do it once and you get more determined to keep on doing it."

It wouldn‘t hurt them permanently but if it happened to them more than once they‘d probably get the picture because HOW ELSE ARE THEY GOING TO LEARN?”
