Bianca Marais is marvelous in person and in writing. This book revolves around 3 people whose lives intertwine, two sisters who seemingly don't agree on much of anything and a young black girl who live in apartheid South Africa. Th character development is precise. The story is riveting. Don't miss it.

Driving from central Ohio to NYC - endless. Driving across Pennsylvania listening to "Brooklyn" - fantastic.

Won't be for everyone - experimenting on birds for research, not always easy to read. Could the author be implying that we are all bird brains?

RaimeyGallant That's rough. I was listening to Stiff today got my share of stomach-turning animal testing stories. 7y

Think you know what a woman will do if she is left emotionally and financially destitute? Now you'll know. Don't judge until you've read the entire book.

Mystery with multiple layers that seem to echo one another. Seems lined up for subsequent volumes. I hope so.

Well researched and written book about two albino negro brothers who are kidnapped and end up traveling as sideshow curiosities during a shameful period at the turn of the 20th century.

DO NOT judge this book by its cover. It's crass and vulgar, has no likeable characters but is head shaking hilarious.

The House on Mango Street | Sandra Cisneros

Fantastic and personally painful. Drudged up vignettes from my early years as a woman. Cisneros says a lot through an unbelievable efficiency of words.

Godmotherx5 So glad you liked it. One of my faves. 8y

I grew up with Detroit in my mind. We followed the Detroit Tigers, my town was ruled by the auto industry, and of course there was Mo Town. My time.
