I enjoyed this one. I liked the way the nephew tells of his aunt‘s adventures. He loves and respects her even if he does not understand or agree with her. I learned a bit about Sicily as well. I plan to continue with the series.

The first of the Auntie Poldi series. I think this was a good start to the series. It took a bit to get used to the format... Auntie Poldi is telling her nephew the story, so although it is mostly being told in the third person, the nephew occasionally interrupts with a question or comment. All the characters quirks were just starting to show at the end of the book, so I‘m interested to see how they develop further.
Auntie Poldi is a hot mess. She‘s unapologetically herself, take it or leave it, she couldn‘t care less. She‘s also hysterical. I enjoyed listening to this cozy mystery set in Sicily. The whodunnit was decent, but honestly, the crime takes a back seat to the delightful characters. This was a good break from darker, heavier reads.
This sounded like it would be fun in a screwball comedy sort of way but turned out to be a bit of a mess. It took me till chapter IV to work out who in the extended family moving about between Sicily and Bavaria was what relation to who. The romantic element was over the top. All in all, I don't think I will continue with this series.
This was a fun cozy mystery with a memorable MC but perhaps a little too clever for its own good.
I wanted to read three of seven library books. I finished two, returned one (for now), renewed one, and made progress on the rest. And checked out five more! I also completed the FB group reread of FOTR. Since I participated in every chapter discussion and led three of them, heck yeah I‘m including it in my count!

Successful Saturday. Two #bookhauls (library and bookstore both through curbside delivery) and a hike in the park between the two points. Also picked up preordered croissants and bread from the local bakery.

Enjoy!
#7days7covers #coverlove Day 2
This is fun - post a cover for 7 straight days, no explanation. Everybody play!
This was loads of fun! I‘ll definitely read the next one.
This has been on my shelves for a while, and I‘m glad that #Booked2019 prompted my reading (#FoodOrBeverageOnTheCover)- it‘s a quick cozy mystery that would make for a great #Vacation read! You may solve the mystery before Auntie Poldi, but not without being utterly charmed and laughing along the way! I‘m already looking forward to tracking down the sequel! #SongsOfSummer
Also, I‘m on Day 5 of #Arbonne30, and feeling way better than I expected to...but reading about all of the incredible Southern Italian food is killing me! 😂 #auntiepoldiandthesicilianlions #mariogiordano
My typical every-other-Friday morning at work, hanging out in Children‘s for awhile and basically getting paid to read. 😂 I‘m enjoying Auntie Poldi‘s antics so far, even though I‘m only about 50 pages in! #auntiepoldiandthesicilianlions #mariogiordano
I went back and forth between a pick and a so-so and decided that I like Auntie Poldi so much she gets a pick just for being who she is. 😂 The mystery part was okay. I think I will give the next book in the series a try.
I loved this! Auntie Poldi moves to Sicily and finds a new life solving a murder. The story is narrated by her unnamed nephew and I loved that too! If you need a book in translation for a challenge, this is a fun read. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterA
I don‘t read a ton of mysteries but this one felt very different from those I have read in the past. I enjoyed it and getting to know Auntie Poldi, who is eccentric and intelligent but not in a nutty or cute old lady sort of way. And I appreciated the fact that I waffled back and forth on whodunnit just as Poldi did. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2018/11/review-auntie-poldi-and-sicilian-lions....
The Wi-fi is acting up so I can‘t do the work I need to do. Whatever to do instead? Why crack open a new book, of course.
Woke up early this morning to finish this one up. It was so super slow and I felt a bit trite. I did like the main character, but it just jumped all over the place and left me disappointed in the end. #24b4monday
I liked Auntie Poldi, but having the story told by her nephew annoyed me!! Not sure I want to read more in the series.
Had trouble getting in to it.
Finished my second pick for the #BookAWeekChallenge
I enjoyed this audiobook. I have the e-ARC of the next in the series. I‘ll be interested to see if I enjoy the writing and dialogue as much when not hearing it.
Such cute titles for #Detective #mystery #series #librarybooks
Super cute and quite charming cozy mystery. These types of books are not usually my jam, but this one was definitely a step above others.
Another book off the Modern Mrs. Darcy summer reading guide. I have great things about this one.
Beautiful day in NH, should be weeding, not reading! enjoyed Auntie Poldi, a very light murder mystery set in Sicily, apparently the start of a new series. Light and easy for a sunny summer day! Enjoy!

Just not my kind of book.
A mystery, translated from the German, set in Sicily. One of those books where the setting‘s culture, architecture, and topography are all characters. Quirky, charming.
Auntie Poldi sure did crack me up in this lighthearted cozy mystery with her brazen nosiness and penchant for a man in uniform. But I was a bit miffed when author Giordano's descriptions sometimes made her sound like a creaky old coot. Especially since she's younger than I am!!! 😆 I felt a little better when I found this more vivacious illustration of her on the German edition. 😁

Excellent in visual and Audio! See review on LibraryThing.
I loved the way the old lady was portrayed. It was hard to just pin her as the Miss Marple type when she kept acting like she was a good 20 years younger. I enjoy old ladies who still have their groove.
I'm conflicted. On the one hand, this sounded really good to me and I'd heard lots of positives about it but, on the other hand, I'm not enjoying it. I'm having to force myself to read so I'm bailing.
Couldn't get into. Try to read later
😩 I feel like I'm slogging my way through this book; Auntie Poldie (or, more truthfully, her narrator nephew) just isn't grabbing me. I'm not giving up quite yet but my thoughts keep straying to starting one of these pretty books instead.
1- I've been eager to read this but now that I've started I don't know if I like it. Barely into second chapter, though, will definitely give it more time.
2- No. The Hubs has to work so I'm reading, cross stitching, and doing laundry.
3- Cabbage salad, cheeseburgers, and chip n dip!

Lunch and a new library book to read. I‘m doing well with my challenges so far. #readharder2018 #femaleprotagonistover60
Auntie Poldi has moved to Sicily because she wants to drink herself to death, and wants a sea view while she does it. Her other hobbies include taking pictures of hot policemen, and inserting herself into official police investigations. She's never seen without her wig, and I love her! I can't wait for her next adventure.
A sixty year old free spirited firecracker retires to Sicily, Auntie Poldi gets mixed up in a murder and foreign politics and she tries to solve a crime. Fans of Alexander McCall Smith and Frederick Bachman will fall in love with this little German pistol.
Auntie Poldie is 60 years old, a widow, and had recently left Munich behind for Sicily where she can be near the beach, enjoy wine, and ignore people. When her handyman is murdered, her "hunting instinct" kicks in and she had to solve the case. Armed with a considerable joie de vivre, a lot of attitude, a love for men in uniform, and a knack for getting herself in trouble, she sets out to find the killer. This was a delight -- so charming.
I won this arc in a giveaway from Bookishfirst.
When Auntie Poldi is first introduced she seems like she has a big personality that will be entertaining, but this isn't sustained well through the book and I found many parts kind of boring and slow.
This is the first of a new series. At the outset, Poldi has just moved from Munich to Sicily to live out her retirement by the sea and near family. A young man she has hired to help out with her fixer upper goes missing and she decides to investigate. She goes from being the primary suspect in a murder to, ahem, enjoying the company of the lead detective. Fun and clever, this is a cute and VERY cozy mystery. #LibraryThing #EarlyReviewer
I have been sick this week, so I have had more time to read this humorous mystery set in Sicily. Auntie Poldi is a very different kind of detective than I am used to. She drinks too much and has the hots for the actual detective on the case. There is a lot going on in this one, but all-in-all, I enjoyed it:)
Totally enjoyed this book that I won from #BookishFirst! A 60-year-old widow, Auntie Poldi, moves from Munich to Sicily (where her in laws live) to have a view of the sea and drink herself to death. That plan is thwarted as she feels compelled to investigate the murder of her young errand boy. Needless to say, she is a character! The writing is humorous and smoothly flowing (if a bit long-winded). Totally recommend! Hope for more! 4⭐️
