The Well-trained Mind
The Well-trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home | S. Wise Bauer, Jessie Wise
3 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
This book will instruct you, step by step, on how to give your child an academically rigorous, comprehensive education from preschool through high school. Two veteran home educators outline the classical pattern of educationthe triviumwhich organizes learning around the maturing capacity of the child's mind: the elementary school "grammar stage," the middle school "logic stage," and the high school "rhetoric stage." Using the trivium as your model, you'll be able to instruct your child in all levels of reading, writing, history, geography, mathematics, science, foreign languages, rhetoric, logic, art, and music, regardless of your own aptitude in those subjects. Newly revised and updated, The Well-Trained Mind includes detailed book lists with complete ordering information; up-to-date listings of resources, publications, and Internet links; and useful contacts. An excellent resource for any family with a desire to incorporate a classical education in their home, whether as a curriculum or as a reference. (Educational Freedom Press)

I'm waiting on my daughter, who has a job interview at Starbucks. I was going to work on lesson plans on their patio, but it's eleventy billion degrees (97°F), so I will be sitting with my ice white mocha in the car with the a/c on to work. 🥵

Traci1 And she got the job! So waiting in the hot was worth it. 😁 3y

During a recent online conversation about tips for all of the new accidental homeschoolers, I was reminded that I published a series of posts about homeschooling on my blog several years ago. On the off-chance that these might be useful/interesting to others at this moment in time, here's the link to the first in the series: https://imperfecthappiness.org/2013/03/03/homeschooling-a-day-in-the-life-part-1...

I don't plan on home schooling, but I want to do everything I can to make sure my kiddos are ready for school. Since I'm not a natural teacher, I decided to bring in reinforcements!
