I have been absent from Litsy for a little while, but I have missed you all! I've done quite a bit of reading but this is what I'm devouring right now. I'm only through the second chapter and am captivated!!

PrezBookster Such a big book, I'm intimidated! I bought it but have it read it yet! Happy reading! 8y
Neverlistless @PrezBookster it is intimidating! But I wanted a big fat book that would last me the entire month of December, so I thought this would fit the bill. But it's so good that I'm afraid I'm going to fly through it!! 8y

Dear Litsy friends, I am looking for a recommendation. This book is about a woman immersing herself within a Christian convent. Would anyone know of anything similar involving Buddhist monks and/or nuns?? Thanks in advance!! ❤️💖😘

Neverlistless @kmdartist that is great! Thank you! And I will also put Afterzen on my list because it looks like it's a part of a series. Thank you again! 8y

I am not at all religious - but I still find things like this so fascinating! I struggle with the monotony of housework and am lucky to have a husband who does a pretty good job of holding up his end of things. But this is letting me pause and think about reframing the day to day to something much more meaningful.

LauraBeth I've had this on my kindle forever 😀 8y
Neverlistless @LauraBeth It is super short, so not much of a commitment! I am about to move on to 🙌🏻 8y
LauraBeth Just picked that one up recently at the used bookstore - looking forward to getting to that one as well 8y

This week's #funfridayphoto is favorite books set on a college campus. These are two of my favorites by JCO - one deals with race on campus in the 70s and the other depicts an incredible experience of a young woman with mental illness.

ultrabookgeek I've struggled with Black Girl/White Girl - it made me very uncomfortable and I put it down months ago. I may pick it back up again soon if you think it's worth it! 8y
Neverlistless @sharimichele I read this one several years ago so I can't really say anything specific. But I do remember not being able to put it down and finding it SO interesting! But JCO can be very uncomfortable and difficult to get through. Some of her books have definitely not been for me and others have been perfect for me, so she can be really hard to recommend to people!! 8y
ultrabookgeek @Neverlistless I will go back to it once the weather cools down a bit - I have to start somewhere with JCO! 8y

Bookgirl @Neverlistless @Yournewfriendsams @MrBook I'm jealous of all of you because I wish I could read it again for the first time. It's that good. Like @Texreader I have read it many, many times and each time found more to love. @Neverlistless savor it!! 8y
Texreader And after you've read it then read Key to Rebecca. I learned of this book just a few years ago and I loved the connection in this war drama. 8y

This was the perfect book for me to read these last few days - as the nights are starting to get a little cooler here in NH - and this is a cozy, witchy little book. It makes me want to clear out my garden beds and start my own witch's garden.

I got this book at the library when I lived in Austin (about 8-9 years ago) and LOVED it. Since moving to NH, I've never been able to find it at any of my local libraries and it's not available on kindle... I don't usually buy books that I've already read, but I couldn't resist with this one!! 😍 last night: I was cozy!

Okay - I am so glad that I read this wacky book. And if it weren't for the terror, murder, abuse, and isolation, I would want to be a librarian with my own cloister. But I do not want to put up with that shit. I vote for a sequel!

Weirdest. Book. Ever. Seriously WTF?? 🙀

LukkiAnn Is it scary dark? 8y
MrBook Lol. I started it but halted after a few chapters. I'll have to give it another go though. 8y
Neverlistless @LukkiAnn : it is super dark, but the plot is so ludicrous and unreal that it's not even scary. But earlier you asked about child abuse - there is definitely a lot of child and animal abuse, which makes it really hard to read in some places. 8y
Neverlistless @MrBook : I did the same thing! I went about a month without touching it, but then I offered to loan it to my sister in law and realized that I really did want to finish it before loaning it out 😂 I would vote for trying it again - the story really sucked me in once I got into the meat of it! 8y

A group of high school students gather at a decrepit old hotel for regional band and choir concerts. Mysteries begin to unravel as they all get trapped in a snowstorm. People accepting themselves, sharing their true selves, beautiful passages describing the feelings that music creates, and lots of inside jokes make this a fabulous read. Oh, and just in time for #internationalcatday!
