Wow , is it really worth this much? I was at my local book exchange, saw this in the case . Read that Butler said it was filled with Sci-Fi cliches and she wouldn‘t let it be republished.Enjoyed a sighting! 😄

Interesting article! I remember reading about #StephenKing ‘s regret over his novel Rage…

#3books I recommend. Even though I know the tagged book was dismissed by Octavia Butler and is often left out of the Patternist series, it is actually one of my favorites. Whenever I hear of people reading it I always make a point to tell them not to stop at the Pattermaster, and to read this one too! (I mean seriously, if you can read Clay‘s Ark 🙄 you would be doing yourself a huge disservice not reading this one as well, or maybe even instead.)
Octavia Butler may have considered this her least favorite story, but I actually enjoyed it. It‘s more Sci-Fi than some, more in the Xenogenesis vein . Alanna the main character‘s parents die, she lives wild for awhile, and then is adopted by a Missionary group...the whole group then leaves the planet to colonize elsewhere. Alanna skills at assimilating and adapting with various groups becomes essential to the survival of them all. (Cont. ⤵️)
I don't know how many of you know about #RedMyLips but it's an organization that I think is pretty important. I'm a sexual assault survivor. So are too many of my friends. Listen to us. http://www.redmylips.org
One word title: Survivor. Out of print #scifi. #photodaynov16
Butler herself said that this was her least favorite novel, and she purposefully let it go out of print. As Patternist books aren't that long, I decided to read it anyway. And it was good- really good! Up until the very last page. All of her books have a somewhat ambiguous ending, by this one was just downright dissatisfying. Maybe she wrote herself into a corner? It's a bit like Mozart's Requiem- maybe someone just needs to rewrite the ending?
