Mehso-so

My pre-Paris read. I didn‘t love it. think maybe I was expecting it to go a certain way and the way it went was actually weirder. When Pierre-Francois Chaumont purchases a portrait of a man who bears a striking resemblance to himself, he is disappointed that his loved ones don‘t see the resemblance. Soon his life as he knew it unravels, but the portrait‘s secret may lead him into a different life altogether. Well written but a bit unbelievable.

Man, this was kind of a sad reading year, volume-wise, but still I read some great books, so no regrets! Longest book was The Forgotten Garden, which I wouldn't have guessed. Definitely haven't read any chunksters lately because mom life. Wishing everyone happy reading in 2020!

Butterfinger This is still awesome!! 4y

I concur with other Litsy readers - a really well done short book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for skill in crafting this book, working out the intracacies without getting bogged down in details.

Another charming novella by Antoine Laurain. I listened to an interview with the author, in which he said he wrote this first book during quiet times working at an antiques shop in Paris. The author plays with the notion of the “life” and character of inanimate objects and how a love of objects might lead a person to discover the real life s/he can choose to lead. #ReadingAroundTheWorld #France

OMG I just love this author. He packs a punch in such a short amount of pages. In this tale a man finds a portrait that resembles him, and the mystery ensues. Very good.

Sassy_Steph I loved the red notebook by him!! 7y

The Portrait is another amazing book by Antoine Laurain. Pierre-François Chaumont is a lawyer and antiques enthusiast who comes across an 18th Century portrait of someone who looks just like him. His wife and their friends insist it looks nothing like him, which only causes him to obsess over it more until he finally identifies the man in the picture and makes the three-hour trip to his estate.
