Father Elijah: An Apocalypse
Father Elijah: An Apocalypse | Michael O'Brien
6 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
Michael O'Brien presents a thrilling apocalyptic novel about the condition of the Roman Catholic Church at the end of time. It explores the state of the modern world, and the strengths and weaknesses of the contemporary religious scene, by taking his central character, Father Elijah Schafer, a Carmelite priest, on a secret mission for the Vatican which embroils him in a series of crises and subterfuges affecting the ultimate destiny of the Church. The Pope and the Cardinal Secretary of State call him out of obscurity and give him a task of the highest sensitivity: to penetrate into the inner circles of a man whom they believe may be the Antichrist. Their purpose: to call the Man of Sin to repentance, and thus to postpone the great tribulation long enough to preach the Gospel to the whole world.

What a wonderful book. This is the start of a series and I can't wait to move on to book number two. I just love the way this guy writes. And, there is so much to think about with this book. It really hit a spiritual
soft-spot with me.

DarcysBookBlog I'm slowly making my way through this as well, and I agree! There's so much good things to think about in this book! 7y

suvata This is such a good book but I have to read it very slowly because there is so much to absorb. One or two chapters a day is about all I can handle and then I have to sit and think about what I just read. But I'm enjoying the heck out of it. 7y

At 600+ pages it's going to take me a little while to get through this one. It was recommended at http://modernmrsdarcy.com/. I'm going to sink my teeth into it this afternoon. If you don't hear from me, don't call the National Guard. I'm just engrossed in my reading.

I barely put this book down all weekend. So so so glad I let some of the genius friends over at #ModernMrsDarcyBookClub talk me into this one. I'll be reading every single thing Michael O'Brien has written. It's like a literary Dan Brown-Tim LaHaye-Frank Peretti with a little Frederick Buechner and Gene Edwards thrown in. #MMDBC

Rayray33 High praise! 7y
