Western Civilization, A Brief History
Western Civilization, A Brief History | Marvin Perry
3 posts | 1 read
WESTERN CIVILIZATION: A BRIEF HISTORY, Eleventh Edition, maintains a firm grounding in political history, while covering intellectual history (particularly the significance of ideas and contributions) to a greater and deeper extent than any other text for the course. Author Marvin Perry's accessible writing style and flexible approach make this abridged version of WESTERN CIVILIZATION: IDEAS, POLITICS, AND SOCIETY an appealing survey text. Updated with more recent scholarship, the Eleventh Edition retains many popular features, including comparative timelines, full-color art essays, and primary source boxes in each chapter. Looking for a little help from all you Litsyans. I never studied history but very much enjoy reading it. I am requesting any history nonfiction title recommendations that you have enjoyed. Thanks!

TheBookAddict The only title that comes to mind at the moment is Born A Crime by Trevor Noah. It isn't specifically a historical nonfiction book, but it is nonfiction and in it Noah tells us about his life in South Africa during the time of apartheid and after the apartheid was abolished. It's more of a personal account of what happened in his life because of that time. Sorry, it's as close as I can get. I loved the story and the audiobook is amazing. 😊 7y
DGRachel This is the true story that inspired Melville's Moby Dick. Very well written and engaging. 7y
DGRachel James Reston, Jr also writes very accessible histories 7y
