The problem with being a scientist and reading popular science not written by scientists, you find infuriating errors that are easily fixed with just a small amount of research. Leishmaniasis is not cause by a bacterium but by a protozoan parasite! I am only on page 24 and I don‘t even want to finish the book. #scientistproblems

#2021Book85
It might have been a bad idea to read about a germ lab that might be responsible for a bunch of people getting sick while we're still in the middle of a global pandemic, but I guess that's what happens when you start a book without knowing what it's about. This book was both interesting and infuriating. I‘d never heard of Plum Island and I became increasingly horrified as I learned about the events that have taken place there.

I‘d count it for #LitsyPartyofOne, but it seems I‘ve got company...

#TIL: Eric Traub, a Nazi germ-warfare scientist, was smuggled into the US in 1949 and worked with the CIA, Army, Navy and USDA. He was a founding father of Plum Island, a former secret government lab off the coast of Long Island.

Inspired by #NFNov to pick up this one again, which I started over the summer and set aside.

#TIL So far I‘ve learned that it is speculated that Lyme disease was developed as germ warfare in the government labs in Plum Island and was inadvertently released into the world by accident. What town is directly across Long Island Sound from Plum Island? Old Lyme, CT... 😳🙁
