The breakout author of The Forgotten Girl and Cemetery Girl, one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time (Suspense Magazine) delivers a new novel about a man who is haunted by a face from his past.... When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She is the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire twenty years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off. The next morning the police arrive at Nicks house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. Shes been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nicks name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket. Convinced there's a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend Laurel Davidson to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissas death. But the young womans murder is only the beginning...and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.

Imagine this: You are grocery shopping and suddenly see a woman who looks exactly like your ex-college lover, who died 20 years ago in a fire. The next morning a policeman wakes you up stating that that same woman you saw while grocery shopping has been murdered the previous night.

So far I am VERY impressed with this book. Spent my two off days just staying home reading and I am not ashamed one bit! I highly recommend this book!

Reggie Well dang, lol, you sold me on it. Stacked. 5y

My first David Bell book and it won‘t be the last! A great mystery with lots of layers. A man sees a woman in a grocery store who looks exactly like his dead girlfriend from 20 years ago. The woman is found dead the next day with his address in her pocket. All that happens in about the first chapter!!

#TBRtemptation post 4! Nick Hansen sees a woman in the grocery store who looks exactly like college girlfriend who died in a campus fire 20 years prior. The next morning she's found dead with his name & address on a note. He turns to his friend Laurel to help him investigate the connection between the two women. But the murder is only the beginning...and the truth can be unbearable. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

The characters seemed flat, the premise far fetched, the love interest blah and the narrator disinterested. Maybe if I had read it instead of listening to it I would have had a more positive review.

While I enjoyed this book I just felt like the explanation was a bit too contrived. That being said I'm still going to read more of his books. Now on to cleaning the carpets in preparation for the in laws.

SusanInTiburon You're a nicer person than I am. I would clean the carpets AFTER the in-laws. 😂 7y

Great plot, so-so character development. Probably a twist or two too many. I've read better by David Bell.

On to #135 for 2016!

Correction: Someone I Used to Know got marked as Read earlier this year🤔 So Broken Monsters actually is 134.

No words, ok one......a-mazing!!!!! So many twist, just when you think you've figured it, nope, another twist. I highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down, I was addicted to finding out what was happening next.
