I finally got around to reading this even though I‘ve loved the movie so much since it first came out.
I got lucky and found a copy at goodwill that someone had already marked passages in and so I marked some of my own passages and will be loaning it to a friend soon 🖤
3-8-21: My 24th finished book of 2021! Gabriel Noone is a writer with a radio show on NPR. While going through a separation from his lover, he receives the proofs from a new writer, a 13 year old boy named Pete, who suffered abuse from his parents. Pete is a fan of Noone‘s and they begin a friendship via the phone as the boy‘s health declines. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏼📖#️⃣2️⃣4️⃣
This was a really weird book and I didn't know where the hell it was going. I'm still kind of confused... not about the book, or how it ended, but how to properly review it and how I feel about it. It was definitely interesting, I can say that much. 🤔🤨
Random pick from my shelves. Still trying to trim down those used library sale books from a few years ago. This was one of them. It's said to be kinda Hitchcockian so it could be quite an interesting read
I'm not a great fan of books with unreliable narrators, and Gabriel freely admits he is given to embellishing narratives, but I found Gabriel himself so engaging and he struck so many chords with me that I just kept going. My desire to know what had really happened was particularly acute in the part set in Wisconsin but after the ending I really didn't mind not being fully certain.
I didn't see the movie yet, but I think I'll do it soon.
I love Maupin's book! They're so easy to read and neve trivial.
This one in particular has left me with a lot of emotions and a sardonic smile on the face!
Well written and so surprising!

I loved 'Tales of San Francisco' and once I've found DeDe's daughter in this one I screamed!
It's not part of the Barbary Lane's universe, so it was a pleasant easter egg to me! 😍
