Pickpick

I've not seen this movie in such a long time so reading this book brought back a lot of memories.

Is it worth the read? Yes, absolutely because you get to know the characters more, through their thoughts and feelings.

I think it enriches the story and I enjoyed reading it, I'm now looking forward to watching it and bawling my eyes out at the ending again.

I didn't realise that the alien was a 10 million year old intergalactic botanist! 😍

Sparklemn I read this back when the movie came out and loved it. I'm nearly as old as ET. 😉 Like you said, it really fleshes out the characters. Glad you enjoyed it! 🌿 🌻 🌸 4d

Mehso-so

Re-released but aside from the new introduction, I had to keep reminding myself that it's written from a 1976 perspective mid career (several things made me cringe just because the way something is described or such is so different then what is expected today). Marriage at 13 and four babies by 18 is 😩 bad enough but then she mentions Do, her husband, took naked photos of her young teenage body that they still have under...

MaggieCarr ... lock & key. Nope, nope, nope, nope! I didn't realize Crystal Gayle was her sister, albeit several years apart with very different memories of growing up in different parts of the country. I got such a kick out of Loretta's fan of Gregory Peck and has a photo of him in her bedroom but it's okay because her husband, Do, has a photo of Dolly Parton hung up too 🤣. A while back I read Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust was far superior... 1mo
MaggieCarr ... superior in my opinion but I know it's not a first-half-of-a-lifetime memoir like Coal Miner's Daughter Is. 1mo

Pickpick

Oh man. I did not actually think I would cry. One of Sparks‘ earlier books, and a bit heavy on the religious stuff for me, but I still liked it! I‘m going to read Message in a Bottle next.

RamsFan1963 I've only read two Sparks novels, this and The Notebook. Both of them made me tear up, probably why I don't read more of his stuff. 1mo
