Love this whole series of biographies for children. In particular, Walt Disney was a very interesting person for children to learn about in a different way than just what kids know him as.

DrSpalding These bubblehead books certainly have a place in your classroom library. I have never seen this resource! These books are excellent reference materials when learning about historical heroes and as you noted would be great books for independent reading. You could also offer a variety of the who was or who is series and utilize them for literature circles. Reading about historical individuals and then talking about them will aid comprehension. 4y

This is a great book on Walt Disney, but I'm not sure if I would read it to my classroom only because it doesn't have to do with education or history, and it might make some kids feel bad if their families can't afford to take a trip to Disneyland or Disneyworld.

In addition to the popular biography series looks at the man behind the Disney franchise, whose affection for small-town life and desire to entertain people was apparent in all he created. The book is a New York best-seller and book for a read aloud. The UDL principle for this book is 3.1 and the ESOL strategy is 1.Teach questioning for clarification.

#LAE3414SP19 “Who Was Walt Disney?” written by Whitney Stewart is a biography that received the New York Times Best Seller Award. This book provides many details about Walt Disney‘s life and fun facts that many individuals have no idea about. This website provides a puzzle for students to complete that has them solving questions about Walt Disney: https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/material/who-was-walt-disney-criss-cross.

Kcallihan This book could be used as a lesson before a field trip to Disney world or as Walt Disney being their “famous person for the week”. The UDL I would use for this would be 3.1, “activate or supply background knowledge” because almost every child has either heard of or attending Disney World. 6y
Kcallihan Similarly, the ESOL strategy I would use would be #4, “Link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge” because regardless of where people are from, many children are intrigued by the idea of Disney World. 6y
Kcallihan For this book I would use IR so students could learn the information on their own prior to joining the group for class work and shared responses. 6y
