#20Series20Days @Andrew65

I started this series when I was young. Now my grandson is enjoying it. This series along with Tolkien's LOTR started my live for fantasy and Scifi. 📚💚💙📚💜📚

TheAromaofBooks I read these a few years ago and really enjoyed them. 4y
Andrew65 I haven‘t read these. 4y
Zoes_Human I love these so much! 4y

TheSpineView @Andrew65 Super good! Start out as Sci-Fi with a touch of fantady, then after book 3 it becomes more of a fantasy series. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 - the order can be a little confusing, too, because there are a couple of “trilogies“ in the mix... some which overlap in time. I got super mixed up when I first started reading them!! 4y
Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks @TheSpineView Thanks for the information. 4y

#NovemberbytheNumbers #nine #catchingup

Number 9 in the series, it takes us back to the beginnings of the story of PERN and turns everything on its head, making Science Fiction out of this supremely Fantasy series.

If you are unfamiliar with PERN, it is a low-tech society on a planet that is threatened more or less regularly by a killer substance that falls from space. Only the Dragons and their Riders keep them all alive! Great fun!

Pickpick

The chronological re-read of #pern continues! I've got the day to myself so I've just finished up Dragonsdawn- yes there are tears in my eyes for the bravery of the first settlers facing thread and the courage of the first dragons! Now it's onto this book of novellas that cover the time between first Fall and Moreta.

GondorGirl @Joanne5 I think you two should be Litsy friends. You're the two biggest Pern fans I know. 🐲 6y
Jabberwocky For the record and for any #pern addict reading this, I don't consider Todd's books part of my Pern. I've read a couple and they don't speak to me in the same way as Anne's do, so I simply count them as separate from 'My' Pern. 6y
Jabberwocky @Joanne5 Hi, sounds like we should be friends! 🐉 (Thanks @GondorGirl all friends are good friends!) (edited) 6y

Joanne5 It certainly does! And I agree about Todd's books, just doesn't have the same feeling as Anne's, still fun but more like second cousins not nuclear family. 6y
Jabberwocky @Joanne5 totally! I personally don't live his voice so I pretty much ignore him altogether (edited) 6y
moranadatter Ooh! Good idea! I need to do a Pern reread. Totally agree re: Todd‘s books. 6y
Jabberwocky @moranadatter right?! It's been so long since I've read the entire series. And I've never read this collection of short stories before- so good! 6y

SilversReviews Love wedding soup. I actually was thinking of making some today, but never got around to it. Made banana bread instead. :) 6y
Jabberwocky @SilversReviews it's so yummy! We subbed kale for spinach and it's amazing. Banana bread sounds great though!! 🍌 6y
SilversReviews @Jaberwocky kale is always delicious in wedding soup. 6y

Guys, reading these books is such a home coming. The cover art, the storylines, the firelizards and even the very soil of the planet Pern are where my bookish heart is home. I'm so glad I'm re reading. I'm so intensely into this moment that I've made my phone background one of my favourite covers in the series. #homecoming #dragons #scifi

GondorGirl I feel like that when I reread Mercedes Lackey's 'Valdemar' books. There's just something about a favorite old school fantasy series... ❤ 6y

Friends, it's time for a re-read. This series makes me feel like I am coming home and it has been way too long. If you've never read Pern before, don't start here. This book chronicles the long space journey and original settlement of colonists on Pern. Chronologically the first novel, it was actually written long after the original novels were successful.

I've started this review four times now because I don't know how to say how much these books, this author mean to me. I listened to the first one one a tape in a car with my dad, driving across the country when I was 8 or 9... it's just impossible for me to overstate the importance of these books. If I could only bring one series through the apocalypse, it would be these ones.

Lauren_reading Aww! My dad introduced me to this amazing series when I was about 10. They still have a special place in my ❤️ (edited) 7y

lauren.lerner One of my all time favorite series!! 7y
jfalkens @lauren.lerner mine too ☺ 7y
lauren.lerner I have been putting off reading Anne McCaffrey's very last Pern book because I'm so sad she'll never write another. 😢 7y
See All 9 Comments
jfalkens @lauren.lerner you should read it, it's good. But I do feel you there, especially since she was working on another pern book when she died and it's not being published 😢😭 7y
lauren.lerner It's not?? That breaks my heart... do you know if Todd plans to write any more Perm books? (He's a poor substitute for his mother but he'll do!) I will definitely move Sky Dragons up on my #TBR. 7y
Jabberwocky Pern was my childhood go to escape from the mundane. I legitimately cried for days when she passed. These books have been more fundamental to my growth than any parent, teacher or friend could have been. 7y
jfalkens @lauren.lerner I doubt he will, he hasn't since she died. The book was something she wanted to do by herself I had heard. 7y
jfalkens @Jaberwocky 😊 I didn't read them until a couple years ago but they are fantastic ☺ 7y
VoraciousReader I adored McCaffrey as a teen, devoured all the Pern books I could get my hands on! Still a fave! 7y
