Things I Want My Daughters to Know
Things I Want My Daughters to Know: A Novel | Elizabeth Noble
11 posts | 12 read | 3 to read
How do you cope in a world without your mother? When Barbara realizes time is running out, she writes letters to her four daughters, aware that they'll be facing the trials and triumphs of life without her at their side. But how can she leave them when they still have so much growing up to do? Take Lisa, in her midthirties but incapable of making a commitment; or Jennifer, trapped in a stale marriage and buttoned up so tight she could burst. Twentysomething Amanda, the traveler, has always distanced herself from the rest of the family; and then there's Hannah, a teenage girl on the verge of womanhood about to be parted from the mother she adores. But by drawing on the wisdom in Barbara's letters, the girls might just find a way to cope with their loss. And in coming to terms with their bereavement, can they also set themselves free to enjoy their lives with all the passion and love each deserves? This heartfelt novel by bestselling author Elizabeth Noble celebrates family, friends . . . and the glorious, endless possibilities of life.

I should have checked more about this one before picking it. I simply do not have the patience anymore to read anything in the "chick lit" category. It is an enjoyable and realistic read overall, but too boring and predictable.
A mother is dying of cancer and she writes heartfelt letters and a diary to her four daughters, to explain what remained unsaid between them in an attempt to shed light on some issues and help them navigate through life.

A book I am so very excited to start on! It is very close to home and I already cried on page 1, but it will be worth it!

I really should just stop picking up anything that falls under the genre of "chick lit" -- I just don't have patience for it any more. The story of a mother who is dying of cancer and wants to leave "instructions" and explanations for her four daughters. Predictable outcomes. Meh.

Pickpick

I didn't hold high hopes for this book, but ended up falling in love with the characters and story. Realistic story with relatable characters and a humorous read despite being based around the subject of grief.

Only drawback for me was the authors poor grammar and sentence skills; it was often hard to distinguish who was saying what and felt quite 'novice.'
