Cruel Sacrifice
Cruel Sacrifice | Aphrodite Jones
On a freezing January in 1992, five teenage girls crowded into a car. By the end of the night, only four of them were alive. The fifth had been tortured and mutilated nearly beyond recognition. Her name was Shanda Sharer; her age-twelve. When the people of Madison, Indiana heard that a brutal murder had been committed in their midst, they were stunned. Then the story became even more bizarre. The four accused murderers were all girls under the age of eighteen: Melinda Loveless, Laurle Tackett, Hope Rippey, and Tonl Lawrence. Here, for the first time, veteran true crime journalist Aphrodite Jones reveals the shocking truth behind the most savage crime in Indiana history-a tragic story of twisted love and insane jealousy, lesbianism, brutal child abuse, and sadistic ritual killing in small-town America...and of the young innocent who paid the ultimate price.

True crime is my guilty pleasure. My fellow murderinos will understand. This story of the murder of Shanda Sharer is not an easy read. She was murdered when she was 12 years old by 4 other teenage girls. Her story is heartbreaking, but it's worth to read. Jones takes you into the past of the two main perpetrators in order to show why they were capable of such a crime. Thanks @Gayan for sending me this one :) #litsyatoz #C

AmyG It's my guilty pleasure, too. Thanks for the book rec. 8y
Josie @AmyG you're welcome! If you read it, make sure to google the case! There have been some updates since the book was published in '94 ❤️ 8y
AmyG Thanks, Josie. 8y

Bookzombie I don't recommend this one to a lot of people because it's pretty horrific and graphic , but you might want to read Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door. It's based on a true story. 8y
Josie @Bookzombie oh wow, that sounds intense. I'll add it to my list and see if I can get through it! Thanks for the rec! 8y
