A light-hearted, hopeful little story set at Christmas, revolving around love and forgiveness

A fast-paced, light-hearted, humourous love story of two childhood friends talking to each other after a very big misunderstanding.
Ali tends to make me think I can maybe like the romance genre....

A sad but cosy bookish adventure.

I tend to dive blindly into any Christmas theme books this time of year (especially if they are free), and thus get a lot of misses.
But ever once in a while I stumbled onto something that just speaks to my heart, exactly like this little book did.

I'm not a fan.

The snobbery, constant gossip and battle of egos just rubbed me the wrong way.

I only finished the book, because I was curious about who Rachel's dad was, and even that was a bit of a disappointment

4½✨
My newly discovered love for all things with teeth and a lust for blood; has me searching out Vampire Lore in any form, shape or size.

Carmilla is a short, very engaging tale, with just the right amount of dark gothic horror and innocent intrigue that without a doubt withstood the test of time. There's even a touch of queer subtext shimmering just below the surface.

My only complaint is that it was too short, I wanted more.

I can't remember that Katniss was this irritating the first time I read Catching Fire. She was like a whiny child, only seeing what she wanted.

The story however was expertly executed, and gripping as ever.

I should have waited for the shortlist and hibernated this book. I'd be very surprised if it makes it, as I really struggled with it and could have bailed on it if it hadn't made it.

Librarybelle Oh dear! I had recently splurged and picked up a copy on the strength of a virtual author talk I saw her do. 10mo
jenniferw88 @Librarybelle, you may like it! I just know very little about this period, and it was very heavy going. Shorter chapters may have helped. 10mo
RamsFan1963 I wanted to read this, but I've seen a lot of negative reviews. If you want to know more about Henry IV, I'd recommend reading Dan Jones's Henry V. It covers the end of Richard II reign, Henry IV seizing the throne, and leads on into Henry V reign as king. 10mo
youneverarrived Hmm, good to know. It does look heavy going and it‘s more of a chunkster than I realised. Think I‘ll concentrate on the others before this. 10mo

If you go into this book expecting a murder mystery, you'll be disappointed, but as a contemporary look at Japan's expectations of women, it's quite good.

BarbaraBB Agree 💯 I enjoyed the Japanese atmosphere 10mo
CarolynM I‘ve just finished this too. The information about women in Japan was the best of it. 10mo
