In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast," Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn't been seen since. After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher's hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy...that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn't felt in years. Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other's hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they'll have to decide if the love they found in one another's arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

“And I‘ll tell you something else. I‘m not worried that you‘ll find someone else, because there isn‘t anyone else on the face of the earth who could ever love you as much as I do. It‘s impossible because no man has ever loved a woman as much as I love you. And I‘m not worried about me finding someone else, because you brought me back from the dead and gave me a second chance at life. You‘re my miracle, Savannah, and I will always belong to you.”

I love a good beauty and the beast retelling. This one was very good. Savannah is back in her hometown after a disastrous moment in her journalism career. She needs a good article to get a new job. Asher is a wounded vet and suddenly the subject of her article. As the interviews happen the two become closer.

This book was so sweet with moments that had me tearing up. I really enjoyed it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Was it predictable and cheesy? Yes, it was. But it also highlighted the importance of veterans‘ health - mental and physical, as well as the role a community can play in supporting our veterans. As an added bonus, it was also pretty steamy 😏 #veterans #veteranshealth #romance #smalltownusa

Checking in at about 12.5 hrs for #13b4monday . This love story was heartwarming and well fleshed out. Unfortunately the trope of ask for forgiveness rather than permission was annoyingly present. 3.75/5 - minus the trope a solid 4.25-4.5.

Chrissyreadit i just saw this book listed as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast- i typically do not love romances, but think i might try this one out. stacked at least. 5y
BethM @Chrissyreadit it's fun and quick. 5y
