A coming-of-age story about Steve Harmon, a teenager awaiting trial for a murder and robbery. It was okay but I liked the original novel better.

I vividly remember reading the Monster novel, so I was excited when I found this adaptation. I usually enjoy graphic novel adaptations and love that they make important stories accessible to a wider audience, but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this one. I found the story disjointed and think that it needed to provide readers with a better understanding of who Steve is and what happened in order for us to feel a deeper connection with the story. 2⭐️
I have never read the original novel, so this was my first experience with Monster. I really liked it and I feel like I have a good understanding why this is on so many award list - the first bit was a little confusing to me but once I read the novel I think it will make more sense.
This gets a pick and 3 out of 5 stars. I like the graphic novel format but it didn‘t works so well for me. I had a hard time following the changes from courtroom to the streets. The original was written as a screenplay and for me that worked better. Still, a good choice.

20 years ago I read the original — Walter Dean Myers at his best IMO. What was great about it: writing format; it was written as a screen play which fits with the main character‘s future dreams. It was the first Michael L. Printz award winner.
I‘m excited to finally read this graphic adaptation.

Wow. This was a great book. Beautifully made. I used to be very pro-police, pro-punishment etc. But reading and watching documentaries about prison life and just the injustices that happen in our justice system makes me so much more blurred with it. This one is one that makes you think (and want to talk about it)

Day 18 Monster : so not the traditions sense of the word. But this is a rather infesting comic I‘m finishing up (hopefully soon I‘m 92%) ...

Picked this one because it satisfies a prompt for a bingo, not sure what it‘s about so it might fit theme here too (maybe not)
