Extravagaria
Extravagaria | Pablo Neruda
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Extravagaria marks an important stage in Neruda's progress as a poet. The book was written just after he had returned to Chile after many wanderings and moved to his beloved Isla Negra on the Pacific coast. These sixty-eight poems thus denote a resting point, a rediscovery of sea and land, and an "autumnal period" (as the poet himself called it). In this book, Neruda developed a lyric poetry decidedly more personal than his earlier work.

"For once on the face of the earth,
let's not speak in any language;
let's stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much"

And let's read some Neruda as a cure for #restlessness. Couldn't fit the whole poem in the image but it's available here https://www.brainpickings.org/2015/05/28/keeping-quiet-sylvia-boorstein-reads-pa...

merelybookish Well that slays! Poets writing in Spanish are on ? (Also, I just adore the phrase "no truck" -- so points to the translator too.) 6y

"we need our hands
to wash with, to make fire.
So let our difficult time
stand up to infinity
with four hands and four eyes."
