Damaged Houses A master craftsman, Don Lark could fix everything except what mattered, his own soul. After tragedy claimed the one thing he loved, he began looking for dilapidated houses to buy, renovate, and resell at a profit--giving these empty shells the second chance at life he denied himself. Damaged Souls Then in a quiet Southern town, Lark finds his biggest challenge: a squalid yet sturdy mansion that has suffered decades of abuse at the hands of greedy landlords and transient tenants. While two charming old neighbor ladies ply him with delicious cooking, they offer dire warnings about the house's evil past. But there is something about this building that pushes Lark on, even as its enchantments grow increasingly ominous. Will finishing the house offer Lark redemption, or unleash the darkest forces of damnation upon him?

Don Lark buys houses, renovates them, and resells them at a profit, and the parallels with his life journey are not lost on him. His latest project comes with very sweet but odd neighbors who warn him about the house, and a squatter living in the attic. But then it seems that the house itself wants to object to his renovation plans...

I haven't met a single person who's read Homebody. Everyone knows his Ender's Game series, and some of his other works. But I feel like this book is highly underrated. Creepy and a lot of fun, a good addition to any ghost story fans TBR pile! #requiredreadingredo @ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

Erinsuereads I‘ve never even heard of it! Good choice! 6y
WhiskeyMistress Adding it to my TBR! Thanks! 6y
madamereadsalot1 @ErinSueG I hadn't either but saw it at half price books so many years ago, shortly after reading Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. So I snagged it and loved it so much! @WhiskeyMistress It's a really quick read! Definitely worth the time investment. 6y
night_shift I had no idea he wrote anything else! Always down for a good creepy book. Promptly TBR added! 6y
Erinsuereads There is nothing better than a perfectly timed half price book! 6y

This book stands out to me as one of the best (and one of my favorite) fiction books I have ever read. I read it in Middle school or HS, and loved it soon as I started it. It's about a master Craftsman who experienced a great loss, so he goes around fixing dilapidated homes and selling them. Until he finds one that is not like the others.. It has a sort of "magic" if you will, and won't let him leave. Will he be trapped in the clutches??
