#SleighTheShelves Day 17: Love the #Lights here in the mountain (Jebel Hafeet), especially when it gets dark.
#SleighTheShelves Day 12: Because teenage daughter and Mother Professor are stressed over scholarship essays, portfolios etc and marking (for me, end of sem blues), Chef Husband made his famous #Gold(en) cheese balls. Comfort food.
#SleighTheShelves Day 3: This one fits #GreenCover perfectly - paired with lotus kunafa with ice cream! All kinds of yum!
Loved this collection! Authors talk about the benefits of reading and the books that shaped them into who they are today. This isn‘t just about the books they loved, but those they didn‘t love as well, because books we don‘t like can tell us a lot about ourselves, our reading tastes, and what our reading limits are. A joy to read.
Happy #BookLoversDay! Today we're celebrating with a throwback to a book that came out in March that felt very fitting for the day!
This is what our reviewer had to say about it "THE BOOK THAT MADE ME worked so well because while I might not have related to every personal story, I enjoyed each story immensely. Some stories were hilarious; some were touching and sad, but all were amazing and inspiring."
Before reading this book I had only heard of three of these authors. However, I love the glimpses into their childhoods. There is a common story that links us readers together: That magical moment when we find the right book. The one that turns us into lifelong readers. This anthology celebrates that. I recommend it to everyone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mal Peet made me 😂🤣😂.
Felicity Castagna loves House on Mango Street, a book that I didn't appreciate as a high school student, but loved teaching as an adult.
A kindred spirit who loves Anne of Green Gables! I must check out her work!
I'd never heard of Shaun Tan, an artist, but I love that he raves about picture books. ❤️
Cathy Cassidy talks about Watership Down and how a book with a huge rabbit on the cover helped her discover what we Littens already know: Reading is cool.
This collection begins with Randa Abdel-Fattah talking about Sweet Valley High and the lack of Arabs and Muslims in the fiction she read growing up. #WeNeedDiverseBooks
#TopTenTuesday time! This week it's all about book covers, so I decided to feature some of my favorite books with books on the cover.
When Candlewick Press contacted me asking me if I was interested in this book I was thrilled. This book was such a fun read! You can easily fly through it in a few hours but I really recommend taking your time with this anthology. I loved seeing the different mediums of the books too.
Some stories that were my favourites: Alison Croggon, Markus Zusak, Kate Constable, Queenie Chan.
If you love reading, I recommend that you go and read this book.
What is one book that has helped shape your life?
I did find one quote I found quite funny during one of the essays I enjoyed from this book. 👍
That's a very interesting way to describe it. 🤣
I tried, I really did. This book just wasn't doing it for me. Perhaps it was my lack of connection to the contributing authors, as aside from Zusak I had heard of exactly 0 of them. Maybe I was just in the wrong head space. Whichever, I've been struggling and decided to just call it. I enjoyed a couple of the essays, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. So don't let my disillusionment deter you from picking up a copy if it sounds good. 👌 #DNF
