Long Time Coming
Long Time Coming: A Novel | Robert Goddard
7 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
A classic thriller with Goddard's trademark plot twists. In Antwerp in 1939, a Jewish diamond trader flees Nazi Europe, leaving his priceless collection of Picasso paintings and diamonds with a friend who takes them to London. The boat he flees on sinks, leaving no survivors. Fast forward to 1976 when his penniless family tries to track down the missing paintings. A classic thriller with Goddard's trademark plot twists. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Next up . . . Its been a long time (no pun intended!) since I read a Goddard. What I do remember is gasping at the end of every chapter. He is the master of a cliffhanger. Looking forward to this.

#Long #BeginsWith

I love Robert Goddard books, and this is one of his best. He is such a master storyteller and always great twists. This book also takes in events in Ireland in the early parts of the Second World War. Strongly recommended and have included my review below.

Crazeedi Haven't read this one, I'll have to see if it's one I have! 3y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Definitely a great read, think I might even have read it twice. 3y

For my trip to #Belgium I will take in one of my favourite books by Robert Goddard. Most of the book takes place in Ireland but there is a key important part of the book linked to a trip to Belgium. Now of course the other option was everyone‘s favourite TinTin!
Long Time Coming is an excellent thriller and I strongly recommend it.

EadieB @Andrew65 Loved this one too! 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Who wouldn‘t. Read it twice and equally as good the second time. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m reading Owen Meany and fiction is not as fast reading for me as the thrillers so I‘m struggling here waiting for the book to get better. 543 pages with small print. (edited) 6y

Andrew65 @EadieB Ouch! , same for me with Sarum. Good book but can only read small parts at a time not helped by 1344 pages of smaller print. Will read in sections alongside thrillers and others. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Good idea! I may do the same if it doesn‘t go faster for me soon. 6y
RachelAmphlett Excellent book! 6y

Reread Long Time Coming by Robert Goddard for a Group Read and still loved it as much as the first time. A great read of like you thrillers with a bit of a historical back drop. Totally recommend this book and author. #allthebooksof2017 #booksyoureread

One of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors for #letterllove. Love every book that Robert Goddard writes but this is one of my favourites which is set during the present but tells the story of what happened during the Second World War in Ireland. A fascinating story, filled with intrigue, twists and surprises. Robert Goddard really is a master story teller.

I have read this twice and loved it both times! Do give it a try!

Melissa_J Is this one stand alone then? Or part of a series? 7y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J A standalone, I think you'd enjoy it. 😊 7y

Pickpick

Robert Goddard is the master story teller, he paints a picture & takes you there, unravelling the story one layer at a time rather like the layers of an onion. He is one of my favourites and has never let me down, and this is one of his best. This book is filled with intrigue, betrayal, espionage, political machinations and a mystery element that is not revealed until the end. What more could you want? What are you waiting for? Read this book!

Melissa_J Is this part of a series? 8y
Andrew65 No it is a standalone story, with the back story taking place in the main in Ireland during the first world war. I'm sure you would enjoy it. I do love Robert Goddard's writing and how he meshes the current story with the back story. Now making me want to read the second Edward Rutherfurd book, Rebels of Ireland, to get more of the historical details. A long time since we read the first one as a Group Read! 8y
Tracey_19 This one sounds so interesting! 8y
Andrew65 @Tracey_19 Definitely a good read Tracey. Everyone I have recommended it to has enjoyed it. 8y
Melissa_J @Andrew65 I still haven't read the second one either 😳 8y
