One of those difficult to review books. Problem: The utter lack of coherant plot. Somehow deeply unsatisfying and rather dull to read at times. But at the same time you feel like you are being completely unfair as it is such a different book. Full of poetry and meta fiction and a real love of Scotland. But can it make up for the fact that I wanted to throw it across the room at the end in sheer frustration? Felt like I should like it more.
I am always SO. BAD. at sticking to these but these are the books currently on my bedside table. Lots of nonfiction for some reason and, if past months are annoying to go by, I'll be lucky if I read one of them! #anticipatedjulyreads #JulyinBooks18 @bookisglee
This is a very odd book. If you love Scotland and are a fan of metatextual novels about a woman researching a fictional poet on a fictional island with lots of fictional Scottish poetry this is for you! Lovingly crafted.
Who else does this? ✋🏼
Dreich day. This seemed appropriate.
#TBRtemptation post 5! I like this cover too ☺️. This "Hame" is Scottish for home. Mhairi McPhail leaves NYC with her 9-year-old daughter, Agnes, for the island of Fascaray to pen a bio of poet Grigor McWatt. While adapting to her new home, she'll uncover an astonishing secret history about Grigor involving war and a mysterious love affair. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
