Headhunters
Headhunters | Jo Nesb
Roger Brown has it all: Norway's most successful headhunter, he is married to a beautiful gallery owner and owns a magnificent house. But he's also a highly accomplished art thief. At a gallery opening, his wife introduces him to Clas Greve. Not only is Greve the perfect candidate for a position that Brown is recruiting for; he is also in possession of 'The Calydonian Boar Hunt' by Rubens, one of the most sought-after paintings in modern art history. Roger sees his chance to become financially independent, and starts planning his biggest theft ever. But soon, he runs into trouble - and it's not financial problems that are threatening to knock him over this time...

The book presents itself as a thriller, but it is full of scenes and references of a sexual nature that you can define as an erotic book.
I like the writer's style, but for almost the entire story I had the feeling that he wanted to save the protagonist at all costs, making the story unbelievable.
Nice plot twists in the ending.

It took me a while to get into this. Even when it picked up, my mind was a bit elsewhere, but I did get my mind back on what I was reading after a bit. At first, the twist at the end confused me, but it was explained. It‘s one of those things where it‘s tempting to go back knowing what you know at the end of the book to see how you had been led astray in your thinking. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin I‘m rating it “ok”, but I feel like if my mind had been paying better attention at the moment it picked up, I “should” be rating it good 3y

More Nordic Noir reading! Just wrapped up this one on audio. I kind of like the movie better, if only because I love the cast!

Such a fun, gruesome read. A corporate headhunter living above his means is also an art thief. The man he's recruiting for a lucrative position may also be sleeping with his wife. An intricate, bloody game of cat and mouse ensues, and you're never quite sure who's the predator or prey at any given time.

This is probably the most physical / visceral book I have ever read. There are scenes where I could have vomited from imagining the story that was being told. There's also some rather graphic sex scenes.

Libby1 Ooo. Not for me, then. 🤢 6y

I must get around to rereading 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑑𝒉𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠 soon. It‘s a darkly funny tale centred on a corporate recruiting consultant and part-time art thief with a disastrously exaggerated sense of self-importance. When I read it originally, I took it as a satire on capitalism. I wonder if I‘d still think that.

#AllHallowsRead #ScaryReadinTranslation #scaryread so this is another Scandinavian crime writer, who writes some pretty gory stuff. This novel is a stand alone and not part of the Harry Hole detective series, which Jo Nesbo is most recognized for. I wasn't aware this novel has been made into a movie, but I definitely could see why. #Giveaway

KatG Great choice! I really liked that book. 8y
Cinfhen @KatG Thanks, I've read a few of his books...definitely dark & twisted! 8y
Bklover I'll have to try it! I've read a couple of Harry Hole books, but wasn't aware of this one 8y

This book started off slow, but after the first 50 pages it took off and I read most of it in one day. The story is odd and has a Tarantino vibe about it, which I enjoyed. Definitely will be checking out Nesbo's other books!
