I saw this book in Paragraph bookstore in Mtl (the old location) a few weeks after it came out. I picked it up in the store, intrigued, read the first sentence, lost my breath, sat down, open the book again, and the sentence was still there. The cover calls to a gothic book, and it starts as such, before switching to horror, then SF, to epic fantasy and ends in a mix of all three. A feat of genius.

1️⃣ There are so many! Probably tagged. It's all the genres together, but it's SF.
2️⃣ Never liked many of them, but I logged *hours* on Crystal Quest on the Mac back in the day.
3️⃣ Japan (yes, I know they broke up in 1982).
4️⃣ Wrath of Khan, or Last Starfighter, or Enemy Mine, or Labyrinth, or Princess Bride... Why are you making me choose?

1️⃣ Lots of drinking the titular wine in this book.

This is also one of my favorite covers. Which is strange since I find it rather ugly. But it is so reminiscent of the book itself: dark, quietly violent, cloying and viscious. Black wine also has the best, most gutt-wrenching opening line of any book: "There is a scarred, twisted old madwoman in a cage in the courtyard."
