I want to encourage people to continue to write bad reviews! They are honestly just as helpful as positive reviews when deciding what to read. I don't have time to read every book that I want to read or that sounds good.

Sometimes, if I'm on the fence about a book, I will read the one star reviews to see why those people didn't like the book.

EloisaJames That's a great point! As a writer, I find the lesser-star books to be useful (if they're not just mean). I wait around six months until my skin is teflon and then I do learn things. 7y
Laney1733 Often, someone else's reason for not liking a book means that I will most likely enjoy it even more! So please, continue to leave detailed bad reviews! I also encourage authors to not get too discouraged by every bad review! 7y
jpmcwisemorgan I've actually decided to read books because of what has been said in a review that was less than positive. We all have different tastes and what one person didn't like, another might like. Also, I don't tend to trust glowing reviews or the extremely negative ones. I look to see what people in the middle are writing. I do agree that reviews don't have to be mean. 7y

erzascarletbookgasm I think reviews should be honest. Not every book we read happens to be great and we should not shy from saying we didn't like a book or if we abandoned it. Perfectly alright. Not everyone loves/hates the same book, right? As for me, reading a negative review does not make me avoid the book; I judge from reading the blurb and identifying with the author. :) 7y
Lindy I am inserting a plea for details. "It was great" is not enough and neither is "this book is crap." Please give at least one reason. 7y
ReadingSusan @Lindy exactly the more detail the better. Like a lot of people don't like books with horrible or unlikeable MCs and will give it a one star or pan just for that reason. Other people don't mind. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Lindy Yes! More detail definitely helps. 7y
Reviewsbylola My friend wrote an Amazon review for a book she got on netgalley and the author tracked her down under her real name (her Amazon UN is not her real name) and sent her a long message basically telling her to delete her review. I was absolutely shocked because I could tell she had put a lot of thought into her review and she very clearly explained why she hated the book. 7y
Weaponxgirl @Reviewsbylola that's so rude! I'd be horrified if someone did that to me. 7y
Reviewsbylola @Weaponxgirl He messed with the wrong girl. She told him exactly what she thought of his message and made sure to let the publisher know via netgalley too. 7y
StaceyKirsch I absolutely do this! I think not enjoying a book you're often not as inspired to share our feelings about it, but try to spare others and be a humanitarian... pass the word. (edited) 7y
Gissy Reviews are to express your opinion about your unique experience with the book, with a particular author. So, it will be a matter of perspective.I think that what matters is how professional and responsible we can write our review, it could be related with plot, characters, writing style, etc. There are bad books that are good books for others @EloisaJames @erzascarletbookgasm @ReadingSusan @jpmcwisemorgan @Reviewsbylola @Weaponxgirl @StaceyKirsch 7y
