I really enjoyed this! It has a different feel from her other books but is equally awesome. Anything she publishes is an instant preorder for me.
I'm at the 42% mark and I am loving this book! It's very political in a way that totally works for me. I had no idea it was such a chunkster when I started it but that just means there's more to love. All those comparisons to The Stand and Station Eleven are justified. There's even a King reference IN the book, love it!
I need suggestions. I have a sixteen year old daughter and we are going to be starting a reading program at home to supplement her school work. I am looking for books that are definitely not too young for her but I have no objection to ones which might be considered a bit too old for her. Books that will obviously keep her interest. No religious content but spirituality is encouraged. LGBTQ content is a plus. See comments please. . .
This is up next and I can't wait! I have heard so many raving reviews! It's waiting patiently for me in my Kindle.
Narrated by the author of course!! 💛💜 This book is just beautiful and I don't normally do short stories. It's so honest and brave and real. Can a book be brave? I think the author certainly can be. All the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s
I first read this a few years ago and am now listening to it. The narration is excellent! It's not my favorite Butler but still a good read. It doesn't seem as involved as most of her other stuff, a lighter read perhaps?
I'm currently listening to Sleeping Beauties and reading The Power. I'm enjoying both of them very much but with somewhat similar themes and even similarly named characters, I'm finding it hard to keep them completely separated in my head!
I'm currently listening to this series. I just started the third book this morning. The narrator takes some getting used to but the story is great. At over thirty hours each, I've had plenty of time to get used to her voice!. My first Robin Hobb experience, 👍👍
To whoever recommended this recently, thank you!! I'd never listened to a Wil Wheaton narrated audiobook. He's really very good! I'd never read anything by this author either but I might look into more. This is a laugh-out-loud good story.
I really enjoyed this! I've seen it classified as horror and I guess it kind of is but I see it more as post apocalyptic fiction. The heroine is kick ass and very likable, it's well written and I didn't want to stop listening when I got home.
I was really unsure about whether I really wanted to read this. My library had it on audio though, so i went ahead with it. I'm very glad I did. It was devastating but so good. Of course it was sad but with no melodrama. I'm going to have to watch the movie now. I saw Julianne Moore as the mc through the entire book, even though I haven't seen the movie!
This was so good!. I finished it today and it never stops, good to the last sentence. I can see this being made into a movie.
3/4 off the way through this on audio and it is addicting. Unputdownable!!
I'm only twenty some pages in and totally hooked already!
A greeting card I bought at the local used bookstore today. I'm not sure if I'll ever give it to anyone, but I liked it!
I really enjoyed this. While it's true that there was a bit of romance, it was an LGBTQ romance which is a bit more tolerable to me. The story of friendship and life long loyalty, and the picture of life in that particular setting made it worthwhile. Throw in a hint of magic and loveable characters and it's a winner! Also, I'm a sucker for a beautiful cover. I read this on my Kindle but bought a print version for my shelves because it's lovely.
Amazon Deal of the Day! Awesome book, awesome deal! The audio is only an additional $1.99 too.
I'm listening to this right now and I'm liking it. It reminds me of the show "Lost" a bit. Not the castaway part. The creepy, weird stuff going on with the odd back story thrown in.
Ugh. This had potential, it really did. Unfortunately, awful dialog and ridiculously horrible romance have ruined the entire premise. The male mc is so terribly crafted, I don't see how any woman could ever fall for him.
So this came today but I HAVE to finish at least two books before I can start it. There aren't enough hours in the day. 😂
This is my current real book read (vs ebook or audio) and I am enjoying it as much as the first!
I started this on audio today and I'm enjoying it so far. Very interesting world. I hope very bad things happen to this MC though, he is NOT a likeable guy.
I listened to the audio for this one and enjoyed it very much. The way that it is written lends a certain distance from the characters I thought. Not in a bad way though. Just different. I liked the personal growth of the characters and how it changed their evolving relationship through time and difficulties. I detest most "romance novels" and this had enough going on to tamp that down. Four stars
I had this book memorized when my children were young. It was their favorite and mine too! I buy a copy for every baby shower I attend. Our first grandchild is six weeks old and I hope she enjoys it as well, such sweet memories. 😍
I finished Sleeping Giants on my way to work and then immediately started this one. I'm sure I'll regret that when I'm waiting for book #3. I am enjoying it right now though! I switch back and forth from the audio to the ebook so I get the best of both worlds! I couldn't believe there was no hold list at the library for the ebook, lucky me!
So this is today's bookmail and I love it! It is so beautiful and then they have to go and destroy it with this. UGH. I want beautiful hard covers with high quality, smooth paper inside and no price tags. Anywhere. Is it too much to ask?
This was between a Pick and So-So. It is a beautiful story and I can see why others would love it. I did enjoy it and learned some about the Alaskan wilderness. It just didn't really move me and I didn't grow really attached to any of the characters. I think that it's really more of a fairy tale and that most fairy tales aren't really my thing. Part of me wishes that I had enjoyed it more than I did.
I'm currently listening to this and am really enjoying it! I didn't think that I would like the style but I do!!
I read this when it came out in 2013 and enjoyed it. I am listening to it now because it is narrated by Angela Dawe. I love her narration! I don't remember how it ended but so far I am remembering how I enjoyed the examination of communication. This is a first contact story, a sub-genre that I really love.
I read this in the mid nineties and loved it. It's been one of my lifetime favorites. I'm now listening to the audio version for the first time and remembering just how much and why I loved it so much! I worried that it would be diminished somehow after all these years, I was soo wrong!!
My daughter, who doesn't read for pleasure, randomly borrowed my favorite last night! Of all the books in this house, she decided to give that one a try. Weird! Maybe there is hope after all! 😏 of course, I'll probably never see it again so now I have to buy a new one.
I finished the audio version today and it was very, very good! It is post apocalyptic, which is my favorite genre, but that aspect was barely noticeable. It has strong female characters and friendship, with mystery and adventure. It is dark but I'm okay with that. My one complaint is that if I hear the word "what" in place of that, which, who, whose, etc again, I may scream.
My first ever graphic novel! Thank you to all who recommended it. The art is amazing and the storyline engaging. I really enjoyed it and have ordered the next two.
They arrived the same day, the much anticipated first grandchild and The Book of Etta! We will be sure to cultivate an early and deep love of reading in this little darling!
Needless to say, I haven't gotten to actually start reading it yet though!!
I want to encourage people to continue to write bad reviews! They are honestly just as helpful as positive reviews when deciding what to read. I don't have time to read every book that I want to read or that sounds good.
Sometimes, if I'm on the fence about a book, I will read the one star reviews to see why those people didn't like the book.
This is so lovely on Audible. I've always loved the movie but this was my first experience with the book (totally weird, but true). It is sooo good, an absolute masterpiece how all of the storylines come together. It really isn't my genre of choice at all but I loved it!
A handful of recent (and fairly recent) favorites!. Yummy
I found this in the children's section the other day while shopping for my niece's birthday and fell in love with the cover. After checking out the reviews, I knew I had to read it! I am three chapters in and it is just lovely so far!!
I recently finished the audio version and really enjoyed it! It is a little dated, but overall,a a great story with lovely characters. It also cultivated an interest in the history of the plague that I hope to indulge in the near future.
I'm really enjoying the red and green posts so here's mine. I have way more red than green and had to raid the children's shelves for most of the green. Except for the Harry Potter! That one's mine 😉
Love, love, loved it! My current favorite book of the year, which is almost over. I listened to the audiobook which I highly recommend. The narrator was wonderful and I read some complaints about the journal font in the reviews. I then bought the book for my shelf, which I do with only my favorites. Strong female protagonist, easily likable. I've preordered the sequel.
