I‘ve always adored Collins‘ atmospheric storytelling - he doesn‘t fail in this tale of two sisters, disinherited & made illegitimate by an outdated Will. The main story unfolds as each deals w/ the blow to their status & lives. News alert, one of them takes a flying leap into the underworld of disguises, false names, & an intense & gripping scam worthy of a play out on the big screen. I could not stop reading when this part of the plot played out.

Overshadowed by Collins‘ other titles The Moonstone and The Woman in White but unfairly so IMO! I loved this roller coaster ride of a classic Victorian sensation novel😍 #ReadingResolutions #underratedbook

This isn‘t in the Litsy database (yet!!), but I thought I‘d share it. It comes out on 8th May, and if you like your books a bit scary with lots of tension and build up, then you might just like this! The Moor by Sam Haysom was read on #ThePigeonhole (I‘m reading a lot of books on this app - it‘s fantastic!!).

Obviously this isn‘t Wilkie Collins, but it isn‘t listed on Litsy yet! Another great choice on #ThePigeonhole. I thought it was going to be Urban Fantasy, but it isn‘t. It‘s a thriller, fast moving, very exciting! I would‘ve read it all in one sitting if I‘d had the book, but it certainly added to the tension by getting a ‘stave‘ every day. If you haven‘t tried The Pigeonhole, I‘d say it‘s worth a go!!

An easy read for a Victorian novel, this had it all; illegitimacy, disinheritance, a con artist, daring disguises, assumed identity, sleep-walking, marriage for revenge and a happy ending.
