Scribbled in the Dark | 
so-soUmmm, so yeah, turns out being a Pulitzer Prize-winning former poet laureate does not mean I will automatically enjoy a person's poetry. For the vast majority of these poems my main thoughts were “okay, Eeyore“ and “emo“. Simic would be trucking along with some interesting imagery and then boom, dark moment, like he thought every poem needed one, or it wouldn't be punchy enough. 1/?
To Boredom
I'm the child of rainy Sundays.
I watched time crawl
Like an injured fly
Over the wet windowpane.
Or waited for a branch
On a tree to stop shaking,
While Grandmother knitted
Making a ball of yarn
Roll over like a kitten at her feet.
I knew every clock in the house
Had stopped ticking
And that this day will last forever.

pickTrying to read more poetry, and this was my first Charles Simic. His imagery is pretty astounding- I had vivid pictures with only a few words. The whole book felt like winter.
Whiskey and I decided it was time for a little Sunday morning poetry
Broke my book buying ban for a massive haul at one of my favorite shops. I even spent enough to earn a 25$ gift certificate 😳 But everything but two slim volumes of poetry is for the kids' school, so it's totally okay.
#While I shipped most of my book haul (3 boxes!) home already, these two books—picked randomly—are going back in my carry-on bag. Great morning spent at Miami's Books & Books. Also pictured here are the stamps I bought for my @Litsypenpals #GetIndie

Just please tell me that the general (I assume more positive than mine) opinion has not been formed about this writing based on the idea that he's complex because he adds those moments to almost every single poem. 2w
