Golden Grave: In Flanders' Fields Lies a Secret Some Would Kill for
Golden Grave: In Flanders' Fields Lies a Secret Some Would Kill for | MR David Lawlor
7 posts | 1 read
1920 - Former British soldier turned republican fighter Liam Mannion is on the run with a price on his head. He looks up with old comrade Ernie Wood, who is being lured back to the battlefields on the Western Front in search of lost gold. The source of the story is Liam's former lover, Sabine Durer, who ran a soldiers' bar close to the frontline. Blinded by thoughts of her and buried treasure, Ernie and Liam enlist three other ex-soldiers to find it. What starts out as a simple excavation soon becomes much more. Wartime memories and old rivalries are resurrected. The men discover that Sabine has not told them the whole story and that their lives are in danger, but who can you rely on when greed and lust cloud your judgment beneath Flanders' fields?

Pickpick

Really enjoyed this classic heist adventure, set in the Flanders right after WWI. The action is fast and furioso, but what l enjoyed the most were actually the characters and the relation between them.
It is about digging out a lost stash of gold, but it is also about overvoming the ghosts of trench warfare.
Brilliant historical setting.

Thanks @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft and @BarbaraTheBibliophage for the reminder on #Booked2019

The beginning of the year has been such a mess for me that l ended up reading only two books
1. The Vanishing of dr Winter by L.B. Hathaway for #LadyDetective
2. The Golden Grave by David Lawlor for #IrishAuthor (l'm still reading this but hope to finish tonight).

I don't have many slotted for Spring, so l'll try to catch up on the ones l left behind.

Cinfhen No worries!! Every book counts 💕Happy Reading xx 5y

1. The Golden Grave. I know it's been some time. Not the books fault. It's being a terrible period for my readings 😧
2. Green Book. Soooo smashingly brilliant!
3. Caffè Choco

At long last l'm going back to my #Booked2019 #TBR list
Reading a friend's novel which is also good for the Ireland Reading Month.

Sounds like a classic heist set in Flanders a few years after the end of WWI.
