Suldrun's Garden
Suldrun's Garden: Lyonesse | Jack Vance
4 posts | 8 read | 8 to read
The Lyonesse sequence evokes the Elder Isles, is a baroque land of pre-Arthurian myth now lost beneath the Atlantic, where powerful sorcerers, aloof faeries, stalwart champions, and nobles eccentric, magnanimous, and cruel pursue intrigue among their separate worlds . . . Prince Aillas of Troicinet is betrayed on his first diplomatic voyage and cast into the sea. Before he redeems his birthright, he must pass the breadth of Hybras Isle as prisoner, vagabond, and slave, an acquaintance of faeries, wizards, and errant knights, and lover to a sad and beautiful girl whose fate sets his bitter rivalry with the tyrant Casmir, King of Lyonesse. Here‘s my husband‘s beloved Jack Vance collection. Missing some I couldn‘t get into the photo from the sides. These are almost all, or all, first editions, many signed, many very rare he‘s spent decades collecting. His love is very very real. @Liriope

Excited about this prompt to prove my sci fi/fantasy/space nerd chops 😂 I loved Jack Vance so much in my twenties but he's written about a million books. Some of them are set in space and some on a mythical part of earth. I've only read two series and a few stand alones. I'm still two short on collecting the ones I've read (mostly out of print). He's a great world builder but it's been a long time since I read these.

Centique I just reread the plot synopsis of Lyonesse and was all 😳 that sounds like a lot of violence towards women. 🤔 7y
Cinfhen So NOT my jam...but friends always ask me for SciFi recommendations so I'll be paying attention 👍🏻 7y
Centique @Cinfhen you'll get kudos for knowing about classic 70s writers 👍👍😂 7y

RohitSawant I haven't read Vance yet. Which book would you recommend I start with? 7y
Centique @rohit-sawant my favourite series was Lyonesse which starts with Suldrun's Garden. If the sound of that one doesn't grab you then try Araminta Station which is one of the outer space series. I need to read these again too! 7y
RohitSawant @Centique Will be sure to check them out. Thanks so much! 7y

Book jar pick

ReadingEnvy Are these books you already own? 7y
jfalkens @ReadingEnvy yes, to help me read my massive TBR I wrote down all my to-read books, folded them up and put in a coffee can. When it's time to pick a new book I shake it up and my husband picks a square. I saw it on here last week and decided to give it a try, it only took me a couple hours to make. 7y
mjdowens That is an idea I should try 7y

jfalkens @mjdowens @ReadingEnvy @ApoptyGina69 it's working so far, this is the third book thats been picked 😊 7y
TerriGreen I also saw this idea on Litsy a few weeks ago and quickly made my 'TBR jar' out of a vase! I am a heavy library user and this is motivating me to read the books I own. I am having so much fun with it. 7y
jfalkens @TerriGreen a vase is a good idea 😊 7y
