Four and Twenty Blackbirds
Four and Twenty Blackbirds | Cherie Priest
7 posts | 9 read | 47 to read
Although she was orphaned at birth, Eden Moore is never alone. Three dead women watch from the shadows, bound to protect her from harm. But in the woods a gunman waits, convinced that Eden is destined to follow her wicked great-grandfather--an African magician with the power to curse the living and raise the dead. Now Eden must decipher the secret of the ghostly trio before a new enemy more dangerous than the fanatical assassin destroys what is left of her family. She will sift through lies in a Georgian ante-bellum mansion and climb through the haunted ruins of a 19th century hospital, desperately seeking the truth that will save her beloved aunt from the curse that threatens her life.

I will admit this one was a little confusing to me. I did not really get what the meaning was to it, but I loved the snarky, tough MC. She was smart and could kick some pretty good ass when she needed to at the end. On to my next "creepy" seasonal read?? ? ?

rubyslippersreads Great spooky cover! 🎃 7y
AmandaL I liked this series! 7y
mjdowens I may still try the next one. Was interesting enough to want to know what happens next 7y
Jess_Read_This Try the Family Plot by her next. I thought it was better and more spookier! (edited) 7y

🌓⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟🌓 Masterful storytelling that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Priest spends the first half of the book plot setting in a spooky, thrilling manner. Then major plot twist and you need hold on roller coaster style til the end. Ghosts, family secrets, African spiritualism, and threat of death/destruction are all themes. I'm already planning my next Priest read. ♥️

💀Is there some rule about reading spooky stories in the summertime, save them for October? If so, I'm breaking it!

☠️I'm one chapter and an completely hooked! I'm almost gleeful at the prospect of finding a new favorite author to add to my author love list.

Laura317 Sounds great! Stacked. 7y
twohectobooks I read scary stories at all times of the year! But my preferred season for them is winter :) 7y
Jess_Read_This @twohectobooks Me too- I love them starting October-February. Sometimes I'll start a list of a few to read specifically during those months. But this one is definitely making me go off that list and starting early. 7y

BeckyLeJ I looooove this book! It is super creepy. And I love creepy stuff all year long! 7y
Jess_Read_This @BeckyLeJ ❤️I love hearing more rave reviews for this one! I don't know what reading rock I crawled out from under... because I hadn't heard of this author until a Litten recommended it last week! 🙌🏼To creepy stuff all year round! 7y
elkeOriginal Ghosts in summertime! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 7y
Jess_Read_This @elkeo ❤️🙌🏼Yes!! A new reading motto! I won't let the seasons dictate me! 😂 7y
moranadatter I like them best in November, but a lot of Cherie Priest's books beg to be read in the late summer. Fathom's another good summer horror. 7y
Jess_Read_This @moranadatter Did you post about Priest recently? I've been wracking my brain trying to remember who recommended her so I can properly thank and give credit! I'm adding Fathom to the TBR list now! 7y
moranadatter Maybe. I love her books, but I've seen others post about her recently too. 7y

Sassy_Steph You can take the book seller out of the book store but you can't take the book buyer out of the book seller, errr that needs a little work! You know what I mean!!!! Enjoy Stacey (edited) 7y

StaceyKondla @JessClark78 - Lost Souls is good. Poppy Z Brite is quite the talent 😊- I read it years ago and gave away my copy which I have regretted ever since. I was happy to find this copy in such excellent condition I just had to buy it. 7y
moranadatter Lovely stack! I see a favorite trilogy in there. 😀 7y

I never, NEVER read horror but picked this up simply because I love Cherie Priest and her Clockwork Century series. This title was fascinating and frightening. Try it if you like horror or even if you aren't sure about horror but the summary appeals to you. I am glad I did!
