I usualpy dont DNF books but i read about 50 pages and it was just too slow and boring for me. I loved Steiner's first book so Im sad this one didnt pan out well. Maybe another day Ill try again.
A man is found stabbed to death with the blame quickly landing on a 12 year old boy who happens to be black. The plot unravels to be much more complex. The plot is good and a great idea, but this book is a bit of a mess in places. I enjoyed it overall, but it could have been written better.
I enjoyed Missing, Presumed. So I was excited when I saw that the second book is on sale for kindle! #DailyDeal #KindleDeal
I loved this book, as well as it‘s predecessor, Missing Presumed, for its mordant wit — a much-loved quality by me — as the self-aware protagonist touches on her own insecurities and shortcomings. Put that together with a murder or two and I‘m a yuge fan. I‘m so looking forward to the next installment in this detective‘s story. I do agree that these would be better read in order, as I saw another reviewer say, and I liked the second book best.
I first want to acknowledge I‘m reading these books out of order. I realize I‘ll get more of the backstory about the characters‘ personal lives when I read the first book and I‘m good with that. 😉 Otherwise, at times I thought this was good and other times I couldn‘t stay engaged. I guess I‘m not a fan of the detective‘s life enmeshing so much in the crime being solved.
I hope Steiner continues this series. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the first book, and this follow-up was even better. The narrator does a beautiful job of differentiating the characters without going overboard. The team of detectives is a collection of flawed, complex people doing their best to muddle through life. I was frustrated and furious at them at times, and loved them dearly at others. I hope to run with them again.
#octobertbr (on top of my most anticipated)! I hope to have a more productive month than September 👻💪🏻

About to start reading... the first book, Missing, Presumed raced through the personal lives of the main detective right at the end and I wanted more. Let's hope the second book delivers! #amreading
Not as good as the first one, I felt like it was kind of choppy and had a bit of a hard time following.
This was just ok. Missing, Presumed was so much better. Very disappointing.
Done reading tonight so I can watch GOT and The Strain. Will be starting off this week with this one. I loved her first book.
Library hold - enjoyed the first book in this series last year, looking forward to this
4/5 ⭐️ I thoroughly enjoyed the second installment of the DS Manon series. Manon is a delightful mess, as always, and I can't help loving her supreme *humanness.*. Davy is also back (yay!) along with a new perspective character, Birdie (who is fantastic). Highly recommend this, and I'm excited to see what Steiner puts out next. A witty, lol murder mystery. Cover describes it well..."literary crime fiction at its very best"
