1961: For most black Americans, these were times of hope. For former P.I. Easy Rawlins, Los Angeles's mean streets were never meaner...or more deadly. Ordinarily, Easy would have thrown the two bills in the sleazy shamus' face -- the white man who wanted him to find the notorious Black Betty, an ebony siren whose talent for all things rich and male took her from Houston's Fifth Ward to Beverly Hills. There was too much Easy wasn't being told, but he couldn't resist the prospect of seeing Betty again, even if it killed him....

Easy Rawlins gets hired to track down a woman he had been infatuated with as a child. Monkey's novels transport the reader in both time and place -- this one takes you to 1961 Los Angeles. Another excellent installment in this series.

Mehso-so

And the Easy Rawlins series continues.... This one was good but didn‘t wow me. It had a couple of interesting twists and I can‘t wait to continue with book #5 A Little Yellow Dog. #readsoullit

Took the kids on a road trip for spring break (poor hubby is home—he has a different spring break!). I can‘t resist a library book store. Spent one dollar on these two. Great little book store!! #litsyloveslibraries

Chelleo Friends shops are the best. I‘m so glad my fave is not easily accessible. 7y
DreesReads I only found this one by pure chance—one of my kids has a garbage truck YouTube channel and we were looking for a truck. Kid 2 and I checked out this place while he filmed! 7y

Mosley said it's easier to get to Paris and Berlin than it is to get to Johnson, Vermont. Yup. We're in the middle of a beautiful nowhere. 😁 As an alumni he sang the praises of this tiny college. It makes me want to sign up for some classes!

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Cool!! Would love to hear him speak!! 7y
Lmstraubie I heard him speak at @bookriot live last year. I really enjoyed it. 7y
merelybookish I bet it's really pretty, even if it is hard to reach. ☺️ 7y

batsy Yeah, go for it! 😀📝🔰📔📚📖 7y
Posemn Why not?! Sounds like a plan! 7y
Suet624 @Posemn @batsy @LauraBeth @saresmoore You all are sweet but my cash situation, my Lyme Disease and the fact that I never graduated from high school make me pause. It's not out of the question that I could take some classes, but it's a stretch. 😀😀💕💕 7y
Posemn I get all of that! Do they have community (outreach) classes? St Thomas and U of MN here in the Twin Cities has classes for residents. Much (much much) cheaper but no credit. Nothing says you have to get credit just to learn about something interesting. I have taken some of these classes and they are A LOt of fun! Mostly (because no tests)! 😉 7y
Suet624 @Posemn you're right, of course. If I didn't have to take tests I'd feel better about the whole thing. I think a writing class would be an interesting challenge for me. And who knows... maybe they have scholarships for old ladies. 7y

Technically I listened to a BBC radio play dramatization not an audiobook, but whatever I'm counting it as reading. The character Easy Rawlins was really interesting and the mystery intriguing. I had a few quibbles with the radio play (some of the acting was not great, and the action was too condensed) but I'm 100% sure these are not faults of the book. Definitely intrigued to read more books featuring this Black detective! #DiverseDetectives

Just downloaded this audiobook / radio play version of book four in Walter Mosley's classic Easy Rawlins detective series for my commute to work tomorrow! Anyone else read any of the books in this series? #DiverseDetectives
