3 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
Autumn, 1565: After fleeing Kyoto, master ninja Hiro Hattori and Portuguese Jesuit Father Mateo take refuge with Hiro’s ninja clan in the mountains of Iga province. But when an ambassador from the rival Koga clan is murdered during peace negotiations, Hiro and Father Mateo must find the killer in time to prevent a war between the ninja clans. With every suspect a trained assassin, and the evidence incriminating not only Hiro’s commander, the infamous ninja Hattori Hanz?, but also Hiro’s mother and his former lover, the detectives must struggle to find the truth in a village where deceit is a cultivated art. As tensions rise, the killer strikes again, and Hiro finds himself forced to choose between his family and his honor. From the Trade Paperback edition.

It was lovely revisiting this cozy mystery series + historical fiction set in 16th century Japan. I‘d recommend if you like Japanese cultural order of the Samurai and Shinobi, and if you like a good whodunnit with a lot of questions 😻🖤 I‘ve got the next book in the series and can‘t wait to read it!

I‘m not wearing them at the moment but I had to show off the socks the fabulous Susan Spann brought back for me from Japan! They‘re tabi socks, meant to be worn with flip flops. A perfect pairing for a 16th century Japanese mystery series #socksunday! (I seem to have misplaced Iga though.)

BeckyLeJ I‘m actually wearing Sylvester and Tweetie sock at the moment. 7y

I've read two other books in the Hiro Hittori series and they were good! Mysteries set in samurai-era Japan. #aprilbookmail

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Oooo, have not heard of these. Mystery and ancient Japan, you say? Two great tastes that taste great together! 8y
howjessicareads @TobeyTheScavengerMonk yes! I've read 2 and 3 I think? And I feel like I learned so much about 17th century Japan! And how I would not have survived. 😂 8y
