The Chabon & the Bowles are still on my TBR, but all four of these titles made me think of sweltering heat & #summernights I might have to add the Chabon to my #24in48 stack. I recently reread The Stranger & find Camus to be much more affable, & aesthetically pleasing, than Sartre.
#MusicalNewYear @Cinfhen

Cinfhen I‘m not familiar with that Chabon title 🤷‍♀️and The Summer That Melted Everything is still on my TBR 5y
vivastory @Cinfhen It's a relatively short Chabon. (200 pages) I look forward to your thoughts on The Summer That Melted, etc I thought it was astonishing. It was one of the best debut novels I read that was published in 2016. 5y
Leftcoastzen ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Sheltering Sky! (edited) 5y

(Amazing invitation to a fight:) 'If I'm mistaken as to the actual nature of your lower extremeties, I beg you to join me in the courtyard of this house, at your leasure but preferably soon, so that, with the pedagogical instrument of your choice, you may educate me.'

Mehso-so

A story about the adventures of 2 Jewish bandits who get roped into a rebellion a plot for the throne of the kingdom of Khazar. Not one of my favourite Chabon books but still a decent read.

This was a quick, somewhat enjoyable read. I like Chabon. Wonder Boys is one of my favorite books. This one was definitely a departure from his usual fare. I liked it in principle, found the characters interesting, etc., but it wasn't very deep at all. I know he was going for "Jews with swords" (in his own words), but I'd like to have had him slow down and explore the characters and world a little more. Overall, just so-so.

Time to read more Chabon. This will probably be my car read for the next few days.

PrincessLibrarian I actually took a Chabon literature course in college. This was my least favorite, but still great! 7y

#thistitleequalsgreatbandname 2 of 3

Gentlemen of the Road - A traveling acoustic folk duo. They got into music for the women, which have yet to materialize. They both wear fedoras.

Dungeon, Fire, & Sword - A prog-rock band that translates their decades long Dungeons and Dragons game into song cycles. Last album: "Archer's Dawn" Every member has longer hair than you.

Written in the spirit of the old adventures novels with twists and turns in every chapters. I enjoyed it a lot. It's part of the charm of the story that there is some over the top elements and twists. I liked the atmosphere, the characters, especially Zelikman. It's a fantasy romp in a fantasy central Asia in the 10th century. Short yet lively book. It's a nice way to escape reality for a few hours. 💕💖
