Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo Book 1: The Road to Epoli
Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo Book 1: The Road to Epoli | James Parks, Ben Costa
7 posts | 11 read | 4 to read
Nimona meets Adventure Time as a singing skeleton searches for his origins in this full-color graphic novel series kickoff! Meet Rickety Stitch . . . a walking, talking, singing skeleton minstrel. He's the one skeleton in the dungeon who seems to have retained his soul, and he has no idea why. His only clue to his former identity is a song he hears snippets of in his dreams, an epic bard's tale about the Road to Epoli and the land of Eem. His sidekick and sole friend is the gelatinous Goo, who Rickety alone can understand. Together they set out in search of Rickety's past, with abundant humor and danger galore. "Dazzling, inventive and fun. Ben Costa and James Parks manage to both spoof and pay homage to the fantasy tradition, while creating characters we care about. A tour de force." --Jason Shiga, author of Meanwhile and Demon "Rickety Stitch is full of wonderful characters and pacing . . . and what surprises! Storytelling stripped down to the bare bones." --Stan Sakai, creator of Usagi Yojimbo

I found Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo earlier this year. It's a fun, adventure fantasy about finding out who you are. It may look a little like it's aimed at kids, but it is young adult. With the themes and subject matter, middle school is fine I think.

Filed under YA graphic novels in my school library but I checked it out for my 10 yr old. I didn't read it until after he did and there were a few parts that were not age appropriate, but honestly I prefer to have him read. Interwoven with the dialogue are the lyrics to an original ballad. Turns out you can listen to it online! I found it and he sang along with the lyrics. 😍❤️😍

Loved this young adult fantasy adventure graphic novel about a singing, and lute-playing, skeleton with a soul trying to find out who he is and who he was. At first glance the cover art looks to be for kids, but the story is for teens. Beautiful colors, fun adventure, with depth to the story. Full review at acrossthelibrary.com

This was a funny adventure/fantasy story graphic novel that left me wanting a sequel, like, yesterday.
