so-soI agree with what seems to be the general consensus for this book: interesting concept, but poorly executed. Took me a little longer to read because I‘ve had too much going on lately, which may have contributed to the lackluster feeling. Maybe if I read it all at once (or at least within a week), it would have held my interest better
It happens every year before homecoming -- the list is posted all over school. Two girls are picked from each grade. One is named the prettiest, one the ugliest. The girls who aren't picked are quickly forgotten. The girls who are become the center of attention, and each reacts differently to the experience.

Having some long workdays, so needed something a bit more straightforward than Dickens, so have picked up The List. I am just meeting the prettiest and ugliest girls - I have a feeling this is not going to go well.
so-soI am really not sure how I feel about this book. I didn‘t dislike it, because I couldn‘t put it down. And I think the premise was a good one. Every year, a list is printed before homecoming, naming the prettiest and ugliest girl in each grade level. The book does a good job showing that the girls who were named prettiest don‘t necessarily have it any better than those who were labeled ugliest. But the ending threw me for a loop and I‘m 👇👇👇
Tuesdays are my least favorite day of the week and today was SUCH a Tuesday. I could use a hug, but settled for a book and some chocolate. 😉
This book did not live up to the hype surrounding it; but it was authentic in its approach to the dilemmas resulting from basic human insecurities (if we are honest with ourselves) related to physical features/self image.
so-soAlthough I appreciated the deep commentary on societal pressure on women to be "pretty" and the intense psychological problems that arise from being on any point in that spectrum, I found the story line and plot to be wanting.
Some characters were dull and others had a developed personality. It was hard to follow their story lines making them seem underdeveloped.
I wouldn't recommend it, but I don't regret reading it.

I have read a lot in the past few days but keep forgetting to post. The List isn't very unique, but it's still good and spreads an important message🙂. I got the bookmark a few years ago, when I visited Needham MA. It' so cute!😋
